Thats fantastic! Im glad he made it home safe!:love

Poor thing..:(
I hope he heals well... and soon!:fl
I hope so. I'm still reeling about the text I got from the owner last night. Some people just don't deserve animals. Poor thing just cast away and not wanted.

Sad that the person just said to end that birds life, but I guess if the bird is very injured it may wreck the performance in a race, still you could pair it up and use it as a foster parent for a good line of racing birds.

I didn’t cull/put down my Serbian highflyer who had his whole leg taken off and devoured by a rat. He’s going better, well still acting the same as before just sitting in a cage all day looking at the other pigeons on the perches. I’ll have to start getting him out and let him get used to using his one leg and also learn how to take off flying.

Oh my goodness .. poor thing!
Im glad he's doing good! :love

Well great news. Papa pidgy that didn't come back last night returned just after I left for work this morning! DW was the welcoming party. Apparently there was alot of cuddles and smooching. Then she let him in! Just kidding! Mama pidgy was very happy to have him back though! Got some Arnica ointment, it was all we could get in town today but it does have symphytum extract in it. Put some liberally on his leg. It is still swollen and I think it IS broken. I have made a 'sick bay' in the loft. It is mesh with a widowhood door. He can see everybody and has more space. Hopefully it can heal now.
Happy to hear your papa pidgy came home:celebrate. Is he the dad of 2 or 3?

Do you think the injured leg is ok without a splint?

He's the dad of three. I'm not surprised he was happy to do a runner! I am so glad he's back. I'm not sure about splinting the leg. I don't want to constrict the blood flow. How could I splint it without it being too tight?

I'm happy your bird seems to be doing well. When you first posted about it I wasn't all that confident for its chances. I'm glad I was wrong. You have done good. It shows just how resilient these little birds can be.

Yes! Vet wrap. I didn't think of that. I can get it from the feedstore. That will definitely help support it. There is plenty of popsicle sticks in this house. Normally on the floor in the kids room!
