Unacceptable Guest Dog

Oh wow that’s terrible!!! :hugs I think in that case I would probably have shot it tbh but idk. I feel like that’s different to me but idk. There’s so many variables in every situation that it’s impossible to say what I would or wouldn’t do. But I think with family I probably would but I also don’t even own a gun so for me it’s not an option even if I wanted to. Which I guess is maybe why I think of alternatives first or whatever? But it’s totally understandable to shoot in that situation! But for me I would have to apply for a license and take a class and all this stuff and then I wouldn’t even be able to shoot it because we’re too close to houses and also it’s not a good idea to have it around the house for various reasons.
This is truly a nasty and difficult as well as dangerous situation for sure.

Guns aren’t really politics though? I mean unless you start getting into policies and stuff which we weren’t? At least I didn’t think?? I have nothing against guns or anyone that uses them or anything like that; I just personally don’t think they’re for me and I also don’t think I would trust myself with one right now for various reasons.
Guns are not politics. They are a right as if this point in time in America. Who knows after the next election but I doubt those rights are going away anytime soon without a fight from gun owners. Especially in the South. To protect yourself and your property not just go out and shoot people or rob them for the hell of it. This conversation is about an untrained bad behaving dog and owner no disrespect to the family member who posted this discussion thread. She has a real problem on his or her hands I believe. I would want my personal property whatever it is left alone in a peaceful manner nothing more nothing less that is it in a nutshell.

Don't EVEN get me started on bad owners. Oh the stories I could tell. People are CLUELESS!!!! Stupid, uneducated, self-righteous...see, you got me started
Amen! This kind of stuff is what makes me who I firmly believe is a nice person mad and want to get rude and nasty about a topic and to other people for being idiots.

I have to really question what makes the "powers that be" highlight the posts that they do. This issue was solved weeks ago.

And in last week's newsletter I saw a product being advertised that most experienced chicken owners ON THIS FORUM have discouraged new chickens owners from buying because it is known to be a bad product.

I have to ask... what product? We're only 6 months into chickening so I would like to know. I don't think I get newsletters.

Can I ask what relationship this person is to you that she feels that she can disrespect you enough to just bring the unbehaved dog over to your house of leash free reign anyway? I never do that to my own parents or families house. Just wondering. Yes I am being nosy maybe.
It's not about our relationship but she is my future mother in law. My fiancee has also asked her not to bring the dog over. She also frequently comes over unannounced and uninvited. Sometimes she will give us a heads up that she is coming by...but usually after she is already on her way. We have both asked her NOT to do this and she does it anyway.

I'm so sorry this happened.
Some people just should not own dogs. If they don't take the time to train and socialize them it's not safe for their dog or others. Especially with big dogs.
It's not the dogs fault the owner didn't train them.
Some people just do not understand the responsibility of owning a dog. Not just a cute pet, or an animal to protect you. You're bringing an animal into your life that depends on you to do everything. More work than a baby IMO

You guys will learn to put your foot down over the years. In the meantime, you could just not be home when she shows up. Or if you see her pull in, act like you are on your way out.
I really dont know how to put my foot down more other than to put their dog on a leash myself. Ive asked nicely. Ive even gotten snippy about it. My fiancee has too. We've joked about locking the doors and shutting off the lights to pretend we're not home. But the problem is, she has a key. And she lets herself in. Scared me once because she came over while I was in the shower. Heard the door open and I ran out with the shower still running. I had enough sense to grab a towel thankfully. She said "oh I was just coming by to grab the circular saw he borrowed. I didn't think anyone was home".

My dogs are totally unsafe around chickens. They have to be contained and separate. Chickens are free range. Dogs have a huge yard. I used to think it was cool to feed them prey model raw with chickens and that doesn't translate well. And my dogs are corgis, not a type of dog that you would think would have much prey drive, but mine definitely do. And I used to show. Ones an AKC champ and the other was imported for breeding from Holland. I've done obedience, agility, rally, herding, fastcat, barn hunt, you name it these dogs have probably done it. They know multiple commands, including LEAVE IT! But prey drive is a heady thing and you have to be responsible.
