Under the weather

Update: No change for my poor girl. I’ve run out of ideas as to what could be wrong. She hasn’t laid and egg and outwardly there are really no signs of illness other than how thin she is. The only thing I see wrong with her is her behavior. She just sits huddled as close to the heat lamp as she can get, but she is still eating, drinking, preening and pooping. It isn’t that cold here, 35 at the absolute coldest part of the night. I gave her a mixture of wormer, poly-vi-sol, honey and applesauce. She ate the whole thing no problem. If I give her sunflower seeds she gets up and eats them all, but then is back to the heat lamp as soon as she’s done. I am at a loss as to what I can do for her. I don’t want to just start blindly throwing meds at her but there is no vet here that knows anything about chickens.

Where do you live? I would take her to a specialist immediately. My girl was very similar to yours and I rushed her to an exotic specialist Friday night. She was too far gone and I had to put her to sleep. It was so difficult. I got so attached to her in the short time that I've had her. She was stable for a few days and then stopped eating and drinking. The vet said right when they stop doing that, it's pretty much the end. We are doing an autopsy to see what happened and if her sister is at risk. I am also respectfully cremating her.

So sorry about your poor girl!:hugs
I don’t know of any specialist in my area but even if I did I am not in a position to spend a lot of money on her right now. Home remedies are my best option at the moment. Us chicken lovers sometimes have to become chicken veterinarians.

Update: Sparrow passed away this morning. I did an autopsy on her and found that her oviduct was almost completely covered and eaten away by what looks like some sort of cancer. She also had a large blood clot in the main artery of her heart. I took pictures but I did not post them because I couldn’t figure out howvto edit the thread title to warn of grafic images
