Undersized Chicks at 18 Weeks

Sounds like you got the wrong breeds. It happens. A friend of mine went to the hatchery and bought what he thought were White Rocks. They were Leghorns. He was not happy.

On the plus side, shortages now means companies are running through older stock. Heh.

I got 10 of each breed Black Australorps and Light Brahmas and there is a big range in size even though theyve all been on the same diet. Some just seem to be growing faster than others..and they were all born on the same day and shipped together from Hoover Hatchery.

Heres some video of them enjoying their run for the first time today. I finished it around 1 pm!

It is very nice and I don't want to be a debbie downer BUT.

I don't know where you live and while chicken wire will keep your chickens in, it won't keep determined, hungry predators out. If you are in the US, Canada or anywhere chicken predators are afoot, you'll need a layer of hardware cloth unless the chickens will be behind a predator proof barrier.

Chickencanoe has a point. The run seems easy to get in. Birds of pray have easy targets too this way. Strong netting might be enough to keep a lot of predators out. And around the bottom you need wire or heavy tiles to keep any diggers out.
