Unhealthy chick

I've saved many of them this way. Cut a band-aid in half lengthwise. Look at the distance between a normal chicks legs and tape the spraddle legs together at the same distance. (1 1/2" maybe) If it is too close together the chick won't be able to walk. Too far apart and it will do no good. This should be left on for several days. Sometimes the chick will get one side off. If it is walking normally the remove the rest of it. If it still appears spraddled then replace with a clean bandage.

Yes. It usually shows up shortly after hatching but can be corrected if hobbled in the first day or two. Sometimes it's caused by taking too long to hatch but it can also be caused by being deficient in certain vitamins and minerals they need. It would be a good idea to make sure your chicks get vitamins in their water to help them have all the nutrients they need for growing.
