Universal Health Care Passes House

We are one of the LAST countries where insurance companies are FOR PROFIT. Actually- I don't know of any others.

Just an exapmle: in Germany, everyone pays pretty high taxes. BUT- everyone gets to go to college for FREE. Healthcare is free. ALL the doctors have the same quality of education. All the professors have the same great quality education too.

I'd gladly pay higher taxes if it meant I didn't have to pay thousands of dollars to put my kids through college (We still owe over $100K for ours), and they could pursue any kind of degree they wanted.

I wonder how much healthier we would be without the stress of worrying about stuff like that, and how much progress this country could make if corporate greed didn't require government intervention.

I am glad I got my new pacemaker/defribulator last week. Maybe I can keep it going for 5 or 6 more years. I may not get another one. Since I am disabled. This is how it may affect me.

What kind of Disability........if it is Social Security he should be on Medicare no matter what age he is.

No- he doesn't qualify. He earned a decent living as a bolt maker, so his disability is $1800 a month. Too much to qualify for medicaid, and he's only 58- so no medicare. His meds & doc bills run him over $1000 a month. (other problems besides the diabetes) And then there is the price of heating oil. After all the bills, he can barely afford eat. There are plenty of people in the same situation, and they just need a little relief.
I wish I could do something to make life easier for him now- because it won't be long before we are caring for him, and he deserves to enjoy life a bit on his own.

I think we should try to tweek the system. Make more affordable. Eliminate fraud. Don't junk the car because it has a scratch.

Your taxes won't go up unless you're already stinkin rich. They just had a big story on ABC news about it. They are going to make Medicare way more efficient to cover most of the cost. The AARP has also endorsed it.

Would we really rather save a few bucks on our taxes than have 36 million people get the healtcare they need? How selfish is that? United we stand my butt.

Here's an idea: let's stop spending money on those stupid American flag with the eagle bumper stickers that are made in China, and donate a couple bucks to United Way or something. Help a brother out.

I just want to point out the damage to the environment this bill has already caused. I just cannot imagine how many trees had to be cut down to print hundreds to thousands of copies of this new bill, and it will be revised with even more pages and reprinted all over again. WTH is Al Gore to demand that they cut the size of the gobbly gook down to reasonable language that can be understood and printed without slaughtering so many trees?

My taxes on my insurance will go up by 40%! Even though I do not come close to the income level of the income tax base, I do have premium insurance which is expensive. According to the bill I will pay a 40% excise tax on my premiums. There is also a 2.5% tax on all medical devices, medicines, and services. That is not so much for a bottle of aspirin, but if you have a $100,000.00 stint operation you will have to cough up $2,500.00. This is tax and control bill, it has nothing to do with providing more and better health care, in fact we will overall unless we are filthy rich receive less.

Well- go ahead and believe what the insurance companies and their swift-boat lobbyists tell you.

IMHO it's very un-Christian and selfish to deny needy people help that is within reach.
