update-chick passed-PLease!!!Help NOW!!

Oh, those types of things are always so difficult. What kinds of chickens are they? I THINK there are some that take longer to develop, maybe this is one? Definitely follow everyone's advice, up humidity. I know that when the membrane dries it supposedly helps to rub a little warm water where you can.

I hatched a chick who sat in its egg for three days with no success in hatching; it is perfectly healthy and my favorite. BUT, it had cracked a hole big enough for the end of its beak before it gave up. So I doubt it would work the same with yours. Good luck deary, let us know how things turn out.

I am sorry but I would have to agree with hinkjc. Some time during the incubation they must have had not enough humidity, or they dropped temperature. I do hope that you prove us wrong though please keep us updated on the little guy.

Pinenot, since you see the beak, I would wrap it in a damp papertowell, as well, and put it back in the bator, make sure your temp is good, and increase the humidity to 70-75%. IMO, they pip, then wait, and I think this has to do with the membrane drying is actually helping the blood go back into the chick. I would wait to help because it is getting air.

It is really moving...I noticed that it doesn't have an egg tooth. I just wonder if the others didn't either. It makes me wonder. Its little beak is through and it is bleeding a bit. I did put some cornstarch on that area and that seemed to stop the bleeding.

I guess I just wanted one soooo bad that I freeked out a bit. I got 2 Silkies from my very first batch and the last couple batches were nothing. I am desperately wanting fuzzy butts.

There is nothing to say...we will just have to wait it out and see what happens.

Thanks everyone! I will keep you updated!

I am so sorry...

I can sort of relate. I accidentally pulled all the eggs from under a broody hen after the 22nd day. (I thought it was ONLY 21 days and no more...I've learned otherwise, since.) She'd gotten up to take care of stuff and I threw them away.

One of the eggs had an almost developed chick. I was so distraught. There was no hope for it. I knew I had to end it's misery and so killed it and buried it - amid tears.

When I went back in to the coop the mom hen was chirping around the box and all I could say was "I am so sorry!" and she was frantic.

Gawd! :|

It was for that chick...I was hoping yours would make it. I know how hard this is...try not to be too hard on yourself. :|

Peace-

Pedro

PS Between this and the dog-lover's post...I am a bawling fool of a mess!
