Well, I lost the chick that first pipped.

I can't believe it. I was gonna help it out if it hadn't made progress by this morning, but it's gone. It had pipped so well! What could have happened? It just never made any other attempts. I don't want to open the egg up.

I really don't think it dried out, since the humidity is 74-76 %

The second pip is now zipping and chirping up a storm! I think that was actually what woke me up just now

No other pips though! I really can't believe it. I wonder what I did wrong?? I think I might wait until this afternoon and then candle and pip air cells, to make sure no others are alive in there. I am so bummed the first pip made it so far and then died.

Anyways, the zipper is almost half way around.

I can't wait to see her!

It's out!! Man that was fast, I am glad I woke up when I did!! It just fell all the way out of the egg. Amazing!

It's SO noisy!! *lol*

Ok now, what happens if no other chicks hatch?? Will one chick be alright by itself? I'll get it a stuffed animal, but won't it be lonely? And what if it turns out to be a roo? I can't keep a roo.

How soon will I be able to tell?

"Unfortunately" (I'm really just happy that its here and healthy) I don't think it's a splash. It looks really dark. But that's alright. Hopefully its a hen!

Don't assume that you did anything wrong. My DH has to remind me of that with each less than satisfactory hatch. I get so upset and vow to never do this again, but the bators remain full. I haven't gotten much from my hatches (first year), but I love what I have gotten.

Sorry you lost your first one. Again ......... dont give up on the others. People have had them hatch on day 24/25 ............ its not that late yet. I really hope you get at least one more for a buddy. Hang in there, I hope you come home today to find some new beaks

Thanks you two. I am glad you are online, I am really bummed about the one. I know hindsight is 20/20 but if I had just helped last night!!

I did take it out and made sure the membrane wasn't covering its little beak.... I figured if it could breathe, it should be ok.

So what should I do if (for some reason) no others hatch? Won't my chick be so lonely?? I got it a sock ball for companionship, put it in there this morning.

Is that ok?

First of all.....stop giving up....its still not time!!!!!! Second......you could look for someone here or on craigslist who might have babies. I just found several in my area on CL with chicks for sale......so they are still out there. But you really need to keep your hopes up

Congratulations on that little beauty!!!!! I am so sorry about the other one. You are 100% sure it is dead and not just resting? I agree that is is far too early to give up hope of more. I have my fingers crossed for the rest of your little ones.
