Updated pics of my 2009 Saddleback & Gray Sebastopol Goslings

Someone needs to buy me some land so I can get geese.

My entire lot is only 7200 sq ft. 6 ducks is the MAXIMUM amount of critters I can keep in the back yard and still have living grass

Here is our tiny suburban "farm"

The duck pen is the orange spot behind the shed. You can see how close the neighbors are. I can almost hand a cup of coffee to my neighbor to the north through my son's bedroom window.

I sexed Charming yesterday and I think it was more traumatic for him then me! I a saw evidence that he is def a he! I will keep him for his charm and great color pattern. my husband thinks he's the flashiest of the flock. I'm short a female, as usual, unless Sambocca is a female. I will try to sex that one in the next couple of days.

I think I need to practice on the vent sexing.
Its just so hard to hold the bird, dig though all that dense down and then try to palpate the vent.
I find it difficult even when someone else holds the bird.
Any tips?

Wifezilla...maybe someday huh?

You can do what I did and figure it out when she sits on an egg!

If you sex a known young female first I think it's easier. The vent is "puckered" and not as round. I held Charming on my lap upside down, which is NOT recommended. Supposedly, the best method is on your lap and under your arm with the bum in front of you. You then push the tail back towards you to expose the vent, and open the vent gently with your (3rd?-lol) hand. I will try this method, but it sounds too hard for 1 person to accomplish alone.

THANKS and interesting on the puckered tip!

Is it puckered even before they start laying eggs?
I'm going to get hubby to help me soon and start
trying to vent sex the 2009 goslings.

Oh BTW I just uploaded a bunch of new photos on my websites photo gallery of the 2009 goslings.
Heres one of the new pics with "Blueberry Muffin" on the right (not for sale).
Can you believe the poof at just 4 months old?!
I am VERY excited at the quality I'm getting from my new saddleback gander!
Thats smoothie "Roughneck" on the left who I strongly suspect is a girl.
I'm falling love with Roughneck because she has such great type and temperament!
I'm seriously thinking about keeping her too.
Oh dear I knew I shouldn't of kept all these babies. Selling them is going to be SOOO hard!

if you practice on younger birds that still fit in your hand it does get easier when you try sexing the older birds.
