Urgent duckling sick!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the video - the duckling appears to be dyspneic and is obviously having a hard time getting air in. With ducklings, this can be most commonly attributed to tracheal blockages, due to seed, foreign matter lodged, or conditions such as aspergillus that create fungal spore development inside the trachea. If you noticed the breathing soon subsequent after allowing her in water, it's possible inhaled water and is suffering from aspiration pneumonia, which is also common.

Besides providing supportive care, we are limited to what we can do with ducklings due to their small size, and fragility. Getting it somewhere warm, and trying to get some fluids in her would be a good start. Mucosal membranes desiccate out quickly with dyspneic birds, so you may consider humidifying the area in her pen a little to lessen the chance of dehydration.

Ideally, she would be delivered some oxygen, so if you have a veterinarian nearby that may be another good route. I do hope you see improvement soon.

Thank you

I have recently been mentioning how vitamins have made such a difference for me. Sugar and Gatorade are the opposite, I'd even go so far as to claim Gatorade causes cancer. I'd never touch the stuff or give it an ailing chick. I see it as radioactive electrolytes (what are electrolytes? Watch the film Idiocracy)
But seriously feed it some vitamins, what is popular on this site is poultry nutri-drench.
I know yours is a duck and it is for poultry but vitamins are vitamins.

I actually feed mine human vitamins.

Do you have any links, or studies correlating sugar, and Gatorade with cancer in birds or is the foundation of your statement based on anecdotal accounts?

On occasions, you may be able to feel the blockage externally, by gently rubbing the duckling's neck, feeling for any bumps. If you do feel a bump, you can try to gently work
Yeah ive tried that, its just getting weaker and its feet are like jelly they arent firm how they were its really struggling

ok I realize that my statement is as much fiction as the film Idiocracy is even though it explains in the film very much not to just accept marketing gimmicks.
Here is an article explaining gatorade in depth, that it was created and marketed by the american football team the Gators and that electrolytes are nothing more than potassium and sodium.
Why are potassium and sodium important for humans? Because we sweat.
Chicks don't sweat.
You make up your own minds.
One bottle of Gatorade contains 9 teaspoons of sugar.
Again I will boggle people's minds but it isn't Fat that causes obesity... Woahaha what? That is right olive oil the secret to meditearraneans livng a long healthy life is wait for it 100% fat.
So what causes obesity? Sugar does and what contains the most sugar in our diets? Energy drinks and sodas.

It does however mention this
A final consideration, especially for those with allergies and sensitivity, is the presence of food dyes in Gatorade and other sports drinks. This caution is because some research has linked artificial dyes to health issues, such as hyperactivity and, potentially, cancers.

Furthermore it mentions Gatorade contains artificial sugars of which there is too little research yet to lnik it to more serious health effects than sugar but that is starting to emerge also

Claudia, I just want to say I'm really sorry abut your situation and I didn't want to come across insensitive in your post, Isaac asked me, I answered but what I have said is still relevant in my opinion. Ie vitamins over electrolytes.
We over the Internet can't do much to help your duckling, you are limited also. In my opinion the only thing you can do is to try to feed it with a syringe to get some energy into it. If you haven't got anything that has been mentioned you can try mixing some egg yolk with water to feed it
And make sure temperture is right for it

Since the thread is about a sick duckling, and not whether to provide Gatorade or not, I will stop after this, but to provide clarification to members unfamiliar with the topic, many veterinarians experienced with avian medicine, recommend Gatorade as an oral hydration supplement.

Your post is extrapolating information done on humans to birds; if you can find information done on birds I would be glad to see, but as of now your statement stands hypothetical.

vet's aren't always the most clued up. How many experts did we see during this pandemic advertise countless false remedies...
I thought it would teach people not to believe everything they read and even if a million vets use the stuff I still wouldn't and I have the evidence that says why..
