Does any know if you can put rabbit manure right onto the garden or into the soil before planting?

We have a 20 pound bag of the stuff from my sister, who raises rabbits, and were wanting to mix that into the soil with some left over mushroom compost and then plant some potatoes there this week, along with some other colder weather veggies.

Will this work, or do I have to let the ground mellow for a year before planting?

Rabbit manure is not 'hot' like chicken manure and is ok to use it straight in the garden if it is not mixed in with other things like hay or shavings. Wonderful for gardens and roses.

Unless your spreading it really thin you need to let the manure age. Fresh manure can/will burn your plants. You can put the manure in a pile next to the garden and use it next year if you are wanting to plant now.

OK, thanks for the info everyone. I'll mix it in and use it sparingly, just in case. I just want happy potatoes!

I use it in my petunias and they are always full and bloom like crazy! Since we have 3 house rabbits I dump the rest by the side of the house, where I scatter flower seeds for the birds and everything is so lush in the birdy jungle LoL

yep, rabbit poo won't burn. Those little nuggets are time release fertilizer. You can sprinkle a thin layer all over the garden. Roses especially love them.

HOWEVER, I was always told not to put any manure with the potatoes... I think it increases your risk of scab. But I don't really know..kinda sketchy on that. Can you really plant potatoes now? Never thought of them as a fall crop.
