USPS Damaged My Incubator!!!!! (PICS)Updated 7/13/09

You bought it off ebay. The seller is required to get you the item in the condition you purchased it. INSURANCE protects the SELLER, not the buyer. Unfortunately for the SELLER, the item didn't get there in the condition he sent it. Sellers often OFFER insurance to the buyer, and then take a risk if they don't buy it. But it does not get them off the hook.

File a SNAD with ebay (significantly not st described). That is what the whole PAYPAL protection is for, as well. You may be asked to return the item to the seller, but perhaps the photos will serve the purpose.

lol, that's basically what i just said in a pm to op. i agree 100% it's the sellers responsibility to get it to u in the condition they advertised. a paypal claim is the only way u will get ur money back. the usps is useless cause no insurance on it. had seller properly packaged it, it shouldn't have been able to be damaged like that.

As you can see in one of the pics, i think the last, the sides of both the top and bottom were broken. Everything else seems to be okay.

I guess I just do not understand why you would not have a fragile package insured. It is ok to be mad, but to protect your investments it is always wise to pay a little more for the insurance.
It is always easier to blame everyone else for mishaps, but perhaps you may want to reexamaine the players involved, to include yourself. I would go to the post, explain the problem, show them the damage, and inquire POLITELY, as to what can be done, without insurance, probably nothing. That is not their fault. Also contact paypal as the seller has the responsibility to get the package to you intact, therefore has their own sellers insurance.

It would have been a good idea to get insurance, that much I will agree on. As far as "It is always eaiser to blame everyone else for mishaps...." I didn't damage it, the seller didn't damage it and the only other hands to touch it were those of the USPS. The USPS damaged it, period! When a 22inch box has an 11inch tear/gash, I would think that that is pretty easy to see. As far as the insurance: According to your logic, you should get every envelope that has a check for a bill in it insured. I would think that if you sent a check to someone you owed a debt, that would kinda be an investment. Do you have your bill envelopes insured? When I pay to have something shipped via USPS, UPS, DHL, FED EX, ect, I would expect that package to arrive in a usable manner. We are not talking about a crushed corner or wet box or a torn flap, we are talking a gash that runs more than half of one side of the box!!!

In my opinion, this wasn't a "mishap" this was obvious damage that was just overlooked by the USPS. I may not get a darn thing out of the post office but you can bet your sweet butt that I will complain as high as I can go to get some satisfaction out of the USPS.

The local postmaster bascially told me there was nothing I could do, but she did give me a number to call. I'm just too mad to call right now. I may call tomorrow.

Ok ..... I know what I'm going to say isn't going to go over well but...

The seller owes you! Not the USPS. Even IF there was insurance the claim would have been denied due to insuficient packing.

I've picked up those boxes in the stores. The units dnot fit snugly inside the box in the first place. Even with out the gash it could have been damaged in transit.

It should have been opened and made tight before shipping, that would have included lightly stuffing the inside of the empty space of the incubator. Then it should have been packed in an additional box 2 inches bigger with padding (bubblewrap or peanuts).

I sell fragile glass and pottery and rarely have things break (knocking on wood) because I take my time in packing.

Yes the USPS was somewhat negiligent BUT the seller was WORSE!

I know what you are saying, but it just seems like the USPS is getting away with it. I sitll think the USPS is at least 50% to blame if not more. Thanks for the responce.
