I just need to vent! My chicks were shipped out on the 20th. I began tracking them almost immediately. Was concerned from the very beginning as the tracking gave a date for delivery on the 24th! That is 4 days for these babies to be without food or water and being moved around in cold temps. This morning I was hoping that they would arrive today - day 3. When I went to the USPS tracking site, they had arrived in Syracuse (35 miles away) last night. Then, of all things and God only knows why, USPS loaded them on a truck and sent them 90 miles south to Binghamton! Why? Who is in charge of logistics? The postal office that receives my packages is in Utica. Why send them south and add an entire day to their arrival! I am so afraid I will get a box of dead chicks. So frustrated because this is all out of my control. I just want to shake someone. I don't care who...just someone that wears that postal service patch.

How many chicks? Looks like you're not alone, maybe this person can let you know how it went...
Freak out with me ... chicks being delivered on Day 4!

It's such a shame that chicks can't be FedEx or UPS. Definitely understand your concern. Fingers crossed big time for you!!
I ordered 10 chicks. They are all breeds I wanted and have never been able to find locally - Salmon Faverolles and Barnevelders. If they don't make it I might just go to Tractor Supply or Runnings and pick up whatever breeds they have.

That makes sense to me, there are a few breeds that I've wanted and not found locally via feed stores. But if you start paying attention to local chicken breeders on Craig's list, you can find what you want and make good breeder contacts! One breeder that I met will even trade me, taking any cockerels that I dont want as long as she has a breeding pair. I just noticed the person on the other thread updated that they just arrived... I think they said 8 chicks. I'm thinking yours are going to be okay 🍀 10 is a decent number to keep each other warm.... Definitely stalk your Post Office incase they don't call you. I get them from my local family owned feed store because they come in such large shipments that the success rate is high. Also the receiving process is amazing, they have a climate controlled brooder room instead of TSC Stock tanks. That said, if you pick up chicks from TSC very, very close to when they received them, you have better luck.

They are now back in Syracuse. Wonder if they will make it to Utica by tomorrow. Hope the Utica office calls me to pick up rather than throwing them in the delivery van. The Utica office doesn't show a phone number, just the 800. I will call the local office in the morning and see if they can contact the Utica office. Poor babies. So much stress.

I had hatching eggs that sat in Wisconsin for a week in the cold needless to say not one hatched! This was awhile back. If your chicks don't make sure you contact the hatchery perhaps you can get a refund or another order. I know exactly how you feel. Good luck and I pray everything goes well.
