Utah!

Speaking of FBCM...My old roo, Tornado, that gets his butt kicked by the FBCM hens...is gonna have to be put down. I would keep nursing him through the whole tail missing/getting beat up business, but when I got him he was missing partial toes from heavy frostbite at his prior home, so his feet have always been pretty delicate. They are not doing well...we just keep having to put ointments on them and another piece of a toe is turning black. He has hardly anything left for toes. Poor boy he has been through a lot. He is a sweet old boy, I have really tried to take good care of him, and he is monstrously huge, so he is such a majestic creature! It makes me sad but I think he is just not going to heal properly and his time is here. He has been in his own pen for a week and I have just been struggling, but I am really thinking the right thing to do is let him go.

Boo I really hate saying that out loud. :hit

Cynthia- pretty girl!

Ipick- i hope for you that she is a blue orp! my bo's are my sweetest most favorite girls. They each give me an egg a day and stay right with me when I'm in the yard. they're like little feathery puppies! i wish more people around here bred them. i would take at least one or ten of every color!

Did you get these from Michelle? That could definitely be a blue orp.

Cute babies. Love the little FBCM.

I got these from my daughter's school. The lady that brought them in for hatching only knew that they came from a breeder in ID that had some rare breeds. I was hoping you may know who she could be talking about so I could narrow down what breeds it may be. Lol. I'm hoping it's not a blue Andalusian since reading up on those days they don't like cold weather and aren't friendly.

How true is feather sexing? If it's pretty accurate, I'm afraid my FBCM is a roo. The blue chick has much more developed feathers.

Ok pawtraitart on here- Michelle- has these same birds, I bet she got them from her, QCU Poultry. She has FBCM, Ameraucanas (purebred wheatens) and Blue Orpingtons, among a few other things. I would bet anything that is where they came from. I make a run over there every now and then, hehe :D pics at qcupoultry.com if you want to look and see if the chicks look like blue orps. Straight comb, non feathered feet, light legs, and hers are especially fat.

Michelle's FBCM never, really feather sex accurately. Tried that many times, it was backwards more often than not. She has even said the same thing :D Keep your hopes high!

Just re-read your post--I was talking about wing feather sexing--but either way the Marans do develop slower than an orpington, they lay a lot later as well.

Thanks! That helps a ton! :D I now think it's a Blue Olive Egger instead of a Blue Orp. It has really dark legs and isn't as light colored as her blue Orps.
