Utah!

If you get the BCM roo, you could breed him with your blue egg laying AM Lav from Cynthia and get 1st generation olive eggers

That is what the black EE's are I got from Cynthia! That would be cool

I saw some 12 wk old pullets for sale on KSL awhile ago for $25 each. Nice pocket change!

I had a BCM roo (I rehomed him, as he was the sole survivor, and I thought he shouldn't be alone). Before the tragedy, I hatched four chicks with him over EE. I got two pullets and two cockerels. Gave all four to SIL/BIL as a gift. They had to rehome the boys. One of the girls started laying last week. The egg is a medium to dark brown with really dark brown speckles. In looks, they look exactly like a BCM except with a beard, so I'm guessing the BCM traits were much stronger. I have a pic of the first egg, but they've gotten darker and more speckley since then.

Cool eggs! I think my black girls have the really pretty BCM looking feathers, they shimmer so pretty in the sun :) But they look straight Amer. in their shape, I would LOVE if they had stronger Amer. genes and did not lay Olive after all and gave me BLUE!!! They came from pretty blue eggs. From the breeders site Cynthia posted it looked like a definite olive would happen with these two crossed ..... even brown with speckles sounds possible then if the BCM genes are strong? Chocolate eggs would be awesome! I wish I knew more about the genetics. It is fun though to not know for sure, so it will be so exciting to get that 1st egg to see what is going to happen! Most of all I hope they each lay a different shade so that I can tell who is doing which one :p Oh just curious here...what color were the EE eggs that your hen laid that you crossed with the BCM to get the four chicks? were they blue...?

I'll show you pics. :)

Here's the eggs the chicks hatched from:

(sorry, I can't remember which chick hatched from which egg, but if memory serves #1 didn't hatch)

This is the first egg the chicken laid, but they've gotten a bit darker since. I need to have my SIL send me an updated picture:

And, for fun, I'll show you a pic of a couple of the chicks when they were 3 months or so old:

Wow, see, brown eggs from a chicken that came from a blue egg..you never know..unless you know it had BCM in the background I guess. lol.. Oh Lisa, I wish you could get that blue egg. What most folks don't know is, that even pure Ameraucanas don't usually lay that robin blue color. Blue yes, but not that bright. Now, the legbars..that's a different story! That's why they are so expensive right now..just getting them over here in the states. I had a white Ameraucana a few years back that laid the most blue egg I've ever had. It was quite pretty.

Oh now I know why you guys want Legbars haha I did not know they were a blue egg layer :) Do not even tell me that, if I go and get more chickens and crazy expensive ones at that I will be living in the coop with the girls :D :D :D

Excited to get my babies, they really are adorable. No matter what color they lay, I will be glad to have them in my flock, they will be pretty (girls!!) :fl It sounds like I can pick mine up from Sphinx so I will see you in a few weeks for the Aussie and one of your blue/black/splashes if you have one for sale :) Keep Blue at the top of my wishlist if it works out, if not Splash is my second choice and Black will work if you get lots of those.

Sphinx----loving the color of that #6 egg. This is what I am hoping for someday :)

That number six egg is what you black girls color of egg was! I promise! That's why I was surprised to see black chicks. I thought, green eggs, darker chicks, not blue eggs dark chicks. Now, it will be a surprise for each egg that hatches. My EE's will be fun to watch and see who pops out. Same with the Ameraucanas due the 16th.
Is it cold there Lisa? We are going to be down into the teens again here..I know, you are probably used to that! So, does that mean single digit numbers for you guys? Oh man, too cold for me.
How are every ones chickens doing in this cold weather. I know bird man doesn't use a heat lamp, if I remember correctly.

Cynthia---it is windy today, and it is COLD wind, no fun going out to get eggs. My girls seem cozy enough in their little plastic wrapped run, hope tonight they are not too miserable. My black girls just do what the rest do.....they have been out there since they were about 8 weeks and they seem fine, the cold does not seem to bother them at all. It is amazing how fast they get used to the weather once they get their feathers!

Msemanuel--have not seen the feed at walmart, I will check it out. Do you know how much it is? Is mana pro stuff ok do you know?

Walmart? Sell chicken feed? I live south of there, quite a ways, but I wonder if they will start selling it here. That would be something to check out.

Hey Elk...where are you? Getting ready for that party tomorrow? Let me know if you are coming Sunday. I looked at that picture that you liked, and I know which chick that is. It is the only one with that much white on "her." I'm saving that one for you for sure. That one is really sweet. They all have sweet faces.
Let me know when you can if you are coming. Good luck with your b-day party. :)
Love getting to see the faces of folks on here.

If only they laid the same color as their mama's. It would be so much easier ! Sphinx is picking my chicks up tonight......no pressure----blue egg layers, blue egg layers.......c'mon Cynthia I am sending you some psychic powers to pick me out two girls with blue egg genes----I am going to jinx it, watch me get 1 roo and one green egg layin' hen haha! We will have fun on here seeing what all these chicks turn out to be come summertime :) It is way fun so many of us will have sisters. (I did not say brothers....only sisters...lol)

Sphinx-those pullets really do look like the BCM hens! Pretty girls :) Thanks for the pictures!
