If you get the BCM roo, you could breed him with your blue egg laying AM Lav from Cynthia and get 1st generation olive eggersThat is what the black EE's are I got from Cynthia! That would be cool
I saw some 12 wk old pullets for sale on KSL awhile ago for $25 each. Nice pocket change!![]()
I had a BCM roo (I rehomed him, as he was the sole survivor, and I thought he shouldn't be alone). Before the tragedy, I hatched four chicks with him over EE. I got two pullets and two cockerels. Gave all four to SIL/BIL as a gift. They had to rehome the boys. One of the girls started laying last week. The egg is a medium to dark brown with really dark brown speckles. In looks, they look exactly like a BCM except with a beard, so I'm guessing the BCM traits were much stronger. I have a pic of the first egg, but they've gotten darker and more speckley since then.
But they look straight Amer. in their shape, I would LOVE if they had stronger Amer. genes and did not lay Olive after all and gave me BLUE!!! They came from pretty blue eggs. From the breeders site Cynthia posted it looked like a definite olive would happen with these two crossed ..... even brown with speckles sounds possible then if the BCM genes are strong? Chocolate eggs would be awesome! I wish I knew more about the genetics. It is fun though to not know for sure, so it will be so exciting to get that 1st egg to see what is going to happen! Most of all I hope they each lay a different shade so that I can tell who is doing which one
Oh just curious here...what color were the EE eggs that your hen laid that you crossed with the BCM to get the four chicks? were they blue...?
It sounds like I can pick mine up from Sphinx so I will see you in a few weeks for the Aussie and one of your blue/black/splashes if you have one for sale
