Utah!

The scardy chick turned bully is still smaller than the two you sent. Although she is rapidly catching up.

Today, I helped some friends process their rooster. They were a little emotional about it, and I can empathize. I've done enough now that what was once a three hour job took less than an hour even with frequent breaks. On one hand, I am proud of myself for getting over what was once a major hang up go me. On the other, I am hoping I am not loosing my respect for life. I don't think I am, but it has gotten easier for me.

So they have a 100 Watt bulb, and then I took the frog night heat light and put it over there too. They are in a chick pile, but they aren't crying, so hopefully they stay warm. I called our local Walmart, and they are a small Walmart, and they don't have any heat bulbs. So they are going to have to wait till I get down to the store tomorrow morning.

I do have a heat pad, but I don't know how well it will work through the bottom of a dog crate.

I really don't think a heat pad, or heat bulb is necessary. They are 11 days old now. If they get too warm, they can get sick. Thinking the 100 should do. I have never had a 100 on my new chicks. I use a 75 at first, then a 60 within a week. They learn to snuggle if they are a bit chilly. But really, it isn't very cold at 78 degrees in the room. :)

I've always just used a regular incandescent bulb. I was using 100s, and then they stopped making them, so I use a 75. When I keep them in a reptile tank, the 75 seems to be fine.

Hey Guys,

Have you seen the you tube video of the "Chicken Caravan" from Austrailia? I know that none of us are really big players...as atleast I don't think so...but it is quite fun to watch.

Kind'a wanna find a big meadow and pull it around with an ATV or something. It won Austraila's Award for new invention last year.

Well they did fine with the regular light bulb and the reptile one. Just normal peeps out of them, they are in more of a pile, but not like sandwiched together, and still have a few out of the light, so I guess they will be okay, I guess I will just leave them with the regular light. Maybe they will feather faster so they can get out of the house sooner or later.

Hi gang
Well this morning brought another surprise. I went out to do the morning chicken count and one was missing. So I checked the coop to find her dead on the floor eyes closed and by how still she was she has been dead for a few hours. She was fine last night when I put them all to bed. She was on her spot on the roost. She was the trouble maker in the flock, but still liked her. So we are back to 6 again.
