Utah!

So we're pretty sure at this point (4 weeks) that our BLRW is a cockerel. Comb is turning reddish-pink, start of pinkish wattles, and slow feathering.

Now we're considering getting a lavender orpington that is either 2 weeks or 2 months. Ad on KSL is for either in Roy--though I can't figure where/who would have over 80 chicks!

Would you go with the 2 month or the 2 week? All our chicks are about 4 weeks old.

Sundance, I'm glad those FBCM finally hatched out for you!!!!

Silly, those gray/silver OE are really neato. Are either of them feathered shanks? I'd keep one of those because they're really interesting.

Kunzler Farm, are the prices the same between 2 weeks and 8 weeks? If so, I'd get the 8 weeker- gender will be easier to tell and that's 6 weeks of feed you didn't have to buy.

One is feathered the other not. I'm keeping both of those, and then 2 blacks. I tried feather sexing them, and they might need one more day, because most are just barely getting their feathers. But the one gray that is non feathered has the most feathers, and has one row long one row short, so I'm hoping that is at least 1 of my Pullets. All fingers crossed.

Sad note, the one that I had to give feet booties and bind the legs was doing really good last night, even up and trying to walk around. I even dipped its beak in the water and it drank on its owe too. But this morning its making like a clicking noise with breathing. I don't know if its going to make it. I'm so very, sad. I'm hoping it pulls through. I gave it some vitamin water with a dropper today. We will just have to wait and see.

well, I had to make the hard decision today to put my little black japanese bantam 'to sleep'. She would make progress, but she was going back downhill again, but still hanging on... I didn't want her to suffer any more. Even if she did make it, I don't think she would have had a quality life, it also would have taken a lot of physical therapy to get her to be able to walk again.

I don't know what happened to her... the day before I noticed her not doing good, she was up and running around, and happy as can be! and then the next day, I noticed she was stumbling forward, and then later that day, she was just laying on her side, nearly dead. I didn't expect her to make it through the night, but she did. I then got her on some electrolytes, and that perked her up a bit, and started feeding boiled egg yolk... and that helped too... but something still just wasn't right.
I did it the most humane way that I could handle, I put her in a butter tub, and sealed her in there with baking soda and vinegar (that was in another cup inside), and she just went to sleep.

I couldn't bear the thought of snipping/breaking her neck, or any other way that I've read... I was in tears. Both my husband and my mom (who lives 1.5 hours away) offered to do it for me (bless their hearts).

Worst part is, I had two little boys that I had to break the news to... they were sad, but my older boy piped up and said "can we go get a new chick? so that makes 7 again?"

Oh, and I called Linden Nursery, they are supposedly getting in silkies tomorrow.

Aww sorry to hear the sad news :( It was always hard when my first few babies died but it somehow helped me with the loss when my daughter was excited to just go buy another. Seeing her not as upset as me, made it a little easier. Thanks for checking in with linden nursery. I called them sat and they said they didnt know what was up with their order and had to wait till monday to call, so im glad they are finally getting them in tomorrow. I may go take a peek tomorrow and see if they might have some bearded babies. :)

I'm so very sorry for your loss. I have a bunch of chicks if you want any. I have Ameraucana's/Easter Eggers, Welsummers, Brown Leghorns and Olive Eggers. They are 2 days old. Just let me know.

Finally took these pics of all my babies today, and wanted to share with everyone!! I have 3 pics of each chick. They are 3 weeks old here. Enjoy and Happy easter everyone! :)

Buff chick#2 (Dixie's mini me lol. Loving her crest :)

Splash chick#3 (This one is getting pretty big and heavy. Hoping its not a roo lol)

Cream/white chick#4 (I'm feeling possible roo on this one. Hoping im wrong lol)

Blue chick#5 (Cynthia gave me this cute baby. Look at that tiny puff on her head! lol)

Black chick#5 (She's not from the same batch. Has nice leg feathering but no puff on her head yet lol)
