Utah!

DO THEY HAVE A RODEO??!!?? Oh yes they do!! It starts Wed with Bulls, Broncs and Barrels and then there is a PRCA rodeo Thurs, Fri and Sat nights. I think Friday is 'Tough enough to wear pink night'. The rodeo clown is a family friend and there are several members of the committee from Park Valley so the rodeo is a HUGE deal out here. Here is a link: http://www.goldenspikerodeo.com/ I think you should come for sure!! This fair is so big and so many people from PV take part of it that most of the families take a trailer or stay in a motel for almost the whole week. My husband and I have gone every night in the past so hopefully we will get to see you around!!
Yay! We love a good rodeo! We go to golden spike all the time. We really like the college rodeos they host there. The seating in that arena is the best! You can get so close to the action! My kids think that if they don't end up getting sprayed by dirt being flung around by the broncs and bulls that we didn't get our money's worth. :) That is very cool that the clown is a family friend! My oldest went through a very long rodeo phase where is "when I grow up" dream was to become a rodeo clown. :) I'll text you and maybe we can figure out a time that we can meet.

I went fair hopping today, mostly looking at and for chickens. I have seen the Cache County, Weber County, Salt Lake County and Downey, Idaho fair. It got too late to get to the Grace, Idaho fair. I saw some fairly nice birds and some I was not all that familiar with. I was really taken by the Serama's. They are seriously cute, I think they belonged to sundancebare. Where do these come from? How does one acquire these little beauties? If someone has the information, to head me in that direction, it would be most helpful.

I thought I would see more OEG birds today than I did. I wonder what has happened to these little fellows. I saw a few at the Cache County display, but not so much elsewhere. Last year I did see a nice display at the Box Elder Fair however, and some at the Franklin County fair in Preston, Idaho. Are there OEG keepers here on the Utah thread? I'll have to pose this same question over on the Idaho one as well.

Anyway, it looks like a nice showing by the local BYC members. It is fun to see some of your birds.

Is the Utah County fair big? and when is it, worth the drive down to see it?

Best to all and your birds,

RJ

Hahaha Lisa, you're naughty. It doesn't help that we are all hatching and chick enablers, though

Iluv, what's the good word on Ellie today? I love her buzz cut!

I wish I could go to the BE fair, but I'll be out on the deer hunt. Shoot.
She seems to be doing better, thanks for asking.
Update: This morning when I checked on her, she was up and about in the large brooder bucket I was keeping her in, and she seemed interested in her food a little bit. The first i've seen in a couple days. She was standing and acting like she had a little more energy. I fed her the deluted food mixture with vitamin again w/ a syringe and gave her some water through syringe and then put her in with the other other chickens for the day. It seemed to be just what she needed because she became more energetic and walking around as soon as she saw her friends. It was funny though that her friends came up to her in a dominant manner as if they were not sure if they remember her or not.. lol Really, it's only been two days and they forgot her? Maybe it's the haircut lol. She's been fine with them all day though. I am not positive that she's drinking on her own yet though, as I havent actually seen her. I checked on her several times throughout the day though and saw her eating some food off the ground in there which was good but didnt see her get any water. I did put in a bowl of water with the vitamin/electrolites in it, so that she could easily access it till she's better and then hopefully she'll use the nipple waterer again. I helped her take more fluids right before I went in for the night, and then checked back on her after dark and noticed she was the only one Not inside the coop... which I thought was odd. I put her in through the coop door right as the sprinklers started to go on. Usually they would all bunch up in a ball in the back of the coop, nice and warm and away from the sprinklers, but I checked back a lil while later and saw she was "still" only by the door opening. She was inside but was right by the door, and not in the back with the rest of the group keeping warm. She was all by herself, and getting damp by the sprinkers reaching her a lil bit. I picked her up and put her in the group ball. So really my biggest concern now, is why is she still acting off? Why is she not acting like herself? I know she's probably not feeling a hundred percent better yet, but for her to just distance herself from her friends this way and not even go into the coop by herself I just thought was odd. I hope she starts getting back to her normal self soon.

I believe gamebirdsonly from Box Elder County, (on here yesterday) is the person you are thinking of! And Sundance is breeding Seramas now so you know all the right people lol! There is a gal here in Logan (Lizcar on here) that has them also and breeds them, some of her stock came from Sundance. she lives out toward you :D

RJ I wish I had known you were coming. I would have loved to have met you. I was there until about 300pm Yes the Seramas are mine. I wanted to get some true show seramas so I drove to California and picked up my birds from a very well known Serama breeder and Judge. Seramas are the smallest chickens in the world. They don't do well in a cold enviroment. Especially the frizzles. Liz up your way has some pet quality Seramas, I will have some show quality chicks in the future. They are a very friendly bird. The shite roo in your picture is Pshcho. He was given that name because he paces in the cage. He started doing that when he was a chick. He is so pretty and very correct in his confirmation. Could you see a difference between the care of the birds in the fairs?

It's just my opinion, and I know considering your circumstances you hv to do what you need to, but for the chicken -- I think it's way too early to join the coop and from under lights. That's my take away from her behavior.

You worked magic and pulled her through what was most likely impossible, I wouldn't compromise her health now. Birds (of any kind) will hold out their best behavior till they are literally at death's door, it's a self-reservation nature thing.

Sundance,

I was there around 1:00 pm, I thought your pictures of your birds so nice, that I thought I should go see these little wonders for myself. I found them to be most striking. Your Salt Lake County fair has the best bird care of what I have seen. The man who was there told us that he is in his eighth year keeping track of the building. Lol, he tried to get me to join the pigeon club and even offered me a couple of free birds to get me started. I favor the little chickens however and you have some of the prettiest tiny ones I have seen or know of. I am pleased to meet Pshcho, I have seen his name used here in the Utah thread, and now I have seen him for myself as well.

I really enjoyed looking at the bird below, a Mille Fleur, I think her yours? The feather coloring and sheen on those feathers was just simply beautiful. I would have a few of these easy, if they were to come in a clean legged version. It is just me, but I thought the feather condition of this bird, the best of any bird I have seen in my fair hopping this year, easily. The structure of the feathers was what I consider a most desirable trait. I like this bird. Your entries were all very nice.

Lisa,

Thank you once again for the direction and help with my query. As always you are most gracious and generous in your kind reply.

Best to all and your pretty birds,

RJ

That's Millie, She is a DUncle. Her color is Mille Fleur which means many flowers. She is a favorite of ours. She is what I call one of my yard chickens. I needed to enter 10 chickens so Mille was recruited. She does't come in a clean legged variety. I was there when you came but had gone over to get lunch. Darn it. Thanks for the compliments on my babies.
