Utah!

Cynthia---my lav girl does a similar thing, when I put new ones in....I have to separate her for an hour or so in a wire cage or outside the run so she can see the newbies, she does settle down after the little bit of time to get used to the new one. I do not know why, she hops on her back legs and fluffs her feathers all out, standing real tall and chest bumps and squeals...acts all crazed out....if the new one does not back down she goes right after. But i stay with them and shoo her, have seperated her a few times....she really does ok after the inital spaz attack lol. The last time I put the new ones in from Chickenstock I just put her in the yard, put the new ones in the run, and she stood outside the run hollering in at everybody for a bit, hopping and chest bumping at the run, probably a good two hours....then she settled down and I let her in and she was ok. Do not know if yours would have the same reaction. Hope she works out for you Sphinx! It is funny because she is as sweet as can be with everybody out there, and one of the most social with the humans..it is just the new ones that freak her out. Sphinx does yours freak out at all? She is so darn sweet the rest of the time I will hang on to her unless more problems crop up. Hope not! I have enough feather eaters without that business from her :D

i had a ee do that to the girls i got from you cynthia, she went for those neck feathers every chance she got, well me having the rooster role in my flock i put her in her place every time she even looked like she was going to peck at them, i even locked her up while the others got treats and i made sure she knew it too. now she does not even dare peck the new girls and it worked great. you just got to learn how to be the rooster cynthia :p remember in a flock its the rooster that breaks up the fights and puts girls in their place

A squirt gun works really good too. Blast the meanie when they go after another. I had done that with the introduction of newbies, seems to work. Just not on the constant feather eaters "Oh hey you look you might make a good snack. Let me take a chunk of your butt feathers while you are bending over to eat,,,CHONK!" Then I hear the squeal. And the victim whirls around, with the look in her eyes-- "WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM MAN!!" It happens all day and I cannot get that to stop. I cannot stay right there long enough they just start up when I go in the house. Shirlee is now in a time out cage in the yard, with a little waterer and a little feeder and about 2 x 3 feet to move around in. Three days in time out. Will see if that helps. If not she is going the KSL way also !

I am starting to think that bantam frizzled cochins are a rare breed in Utah

I went to the Salt Lake IFA and apparently they don't know what a frizzle cochin is because the chicks they were sent were all bare-legged with absolutely flat feathers and the girl helping me still insisted they were frizzle cochins.  She also launched into an explanation telling me that a bantam was a breed.

I called theDraper IFA and the lady said she had one but I would have to buy at least two chicks or they wouldn't sell it to me.  They said that since they only had one frizzle I would have to pick another breed of chick too.  After my experience with the Salt Lake IFA I didn't want to drive to Draper and find out it wasn't frizzled or have to buy another type of chick that I didn't want. :(

I called the Ogden IFA to make sure that they had some and she said that they had six.  I drove down there to find that only one out of the six that had frizzled and he looked exceedingly  roo-ish. :barnie

I am afraid that if I take too long to find her the chick will be too small to put in with my other chicks.   They are silkies and are very mellow but I imagine that if they are big enough they might accidently smash it.   I also want to get one young enough that it will like people.  Does anyone have any other ideas of where to find a frizzle?  I am REALLY getting frustrated.

I hope my replies via my iPhone look normal on a computer screen. They look funny on my end.

I had the IFA order some frizzles in for me. I bought 3. Of those three, 2 frizzles and 1 is smooth feathered. (they are bantam Cochins) one of the frizzles was a Roo so I sold him, but all 3 are sweethearts who LOVE attention from humans. Very good natured, follow me around the yard like puppy dogs, come running when called. Maybe ask the IFA if they'll get another order in soon, or if they will do an order for you. I know things are kind of winding down this time of year for the farm stores as far as chicks are concerned.

MmmmmI have never seen sizzle chicks for sale around here. I wonder if anybody on BYC breeds them and sells hatching eggs. That would be a lot of fun! Will look around :)

Sasha when you and daughter #1 have a showdown of chicken and duck eating I will bring my smoker over and we will have a party ! Seriously---good luck with your reunion this weekend. Hope you were able to be ready. I remember hosting those for my hubby's family before his dad passed away. Lots of work! I wish you patience, peace, and fun ;) (And guests that help clean up---and lots of rest after!)

I came really close to buying some sizzle eggs the other day. Ebay. The chicks looked so cute. Didn't think anyone would want them around here though.

Off to my baby's Graduation. Sigh. Good happy feelings for him, a bit of sadness mixed in. My baby is growing up. Why is it when we are young, the time goes by slowly. Then, when we are at my age, we think..man, that went fast! It really does go by fast.

Awww! Have a special day Cynthia! So exciting.....wish that young man all the best. Get pics for us! He is a handsome boy. Will miss you around here for a bit while you are celebrating. Frizzled Silkies would be so fun, I am tempted also :p

Sphinx----this firepit---remember when you said 'pics or it didn't happen'----I want to see! We have been talking about doing this by our patio, and I would love to see yours for ideas! When you have time pleez share :) I will get pics up of our mini coop but we are still waiting for vinyl letters and have to cut the doorway out when my Dh has a night off. I do not do saws. I can't make a salad without chopping the tip of my finger off.

Blujems how are you doing? Have not seen you around much this week. Did you re-home Henree yet, and have you sold goats, and is that Ameraucana from Chickenstock crowing or squatting? Lots of updates needed from you girl. Hope you are feeling better!

Hey there, I am still here. Got put on new meds that have me very dizzy and kind of out of it. Hopefully I will get used to it. So far it is helping with the pain though
Still have HenRee, hopefully someone takes her though. Still have the babies, but hoping they go soon. Nothing from the Ameraucana yet, I love watching her with the monster's old english chicks. She is kind of taking on the mom role. I will have to get some pics, it is very cute.
