Utah!

Lisa, that's the second time you mentioned your daughter being ill. What has she got? The flu..tummy or cold? I hope she gets well sooner than later. Sometimes things can just hang on.

My poor Miss Piggy, leghorn, is moulting. I haven't had one moult this much. I've been lucky to have just a small moult in all these years. She didn't lay for the first time today, since I don't remember when. She was way late yesterday, thought she wasn't going to, but did later in the day, so I suspected she may not today. I hear that leghorns will lay during the moult, but will slow down. That's ok. She got, scrambled eggs today, and some BOSS. Should help with the new feathers coming in.

Red..I am thinking you will be getting a nice little surprise from your RIR pretty quick here. Waiting to hear!

Red, school starts this week (tomorrow) here, that is my excuse. So many posts I have wanted to comment on, tease, be sarcastic, and be a general hooligan but have not had enough time. Plus a very sick daughter

Stevie by now should definitely be getting the saddle feathers and all that hullabaloo don't ya think? The blue girls I had looked just had a standard buff orp shape to them only blue. With darker blackish/blue heads. The roo out at Cindy's house had lots of lighter hackle feathers, with some darker ones I think? Pretty boy, and he was HUGE. If I can find the pics I will post, I had some saved on my computer a while back. You should post Stevie for us. You can call her Stevie Nicks right? lol
Your turkeys sound fun, I may do it next year, will see what kind of pen we build....still debating a goat (s).

School started today here. It was kind of weird to hear the bus stop this morning, and hadn't heard what we usually heard in the mornings. He always yells..see ya, love ya, bye.... when ever he leaves..anywhere. Then, when he comes home, he yells as he's coming in...I'm home! Man, I am going to miss that come Oct.

Well, I feel dirty now. I went out and caught the BSL and gave her a good back scratch. Yep, she squatted. I patted her on the bum when I was done, and she got up and gave her feathers a good shake. Ugh.............I know it's only what they naturally do, but I still feel dirty..............

Aww, poor Miss Piggy! Is it one of those bad moults where they're half pinfeathers, half miserable? Can you tell yet?

Cynthia, we do not know what is wrong. Sick for three weeks, in bed, so tired, aches all over, sleeping all day, sore throat, thought it was Mono----got her tested but that is not it. Swollen spleen, doc thinks it may be west nile. Just on tons of antibiotics she also had a sinus infection....and he says something viral is going on...and to hang in there another week and see. Tons of blood tests run. Just not sure. Scares me! Worried about her spleen rupturing, they are watching it close.

I do bet you are gonna miss that boy this year. Oh man and for a while!

Poor Miss Piggy. I have two that look pretty rough, still laying, my Violet has a naked bum, It is kind of obscene looking....Ewww.

so you all know, meyer hatchery is haveing a drawing for free chicks on facebook. you just like their page and then you are entered for a bunch of chicks. if you already like the page you can just fill something out to be entered. and just so you all know, if i win some there may be a basket of chicks dropped off at one of your doors :p

Wow, school doesn't start here for two more weeks. My kids are dying to go back.

Red, you doing nasty things with your birds in the back yard? ROFL

Lisa, that is scary about your daughter. The vet who saw my lav said that it was possibly west nile or botulism. Given that all of their food is fresh, I think WNV is definitely possible. I know that some health departments keep a flock of chickens to be watching for certain diseases, so maybe that's possible.

Cynthia, poor Miss Piggy. Sometimes those molts look really painful, don't they?

Brad, thanks for the heads' up on the give away.

I have not been around Turkeys too much. My housekeeper is African and he wanted to buy a couple to grow out. I let him. We Bought them from Cal Ranch about 2 or three weeks ago. First thing I noticed is that they are very agressive to anything smaller than they are. Today I let the chicks both teenagers and the younger ones out in the yard as I was going be working out there all day. Since we had that Hawk I only let them out if I am right there and the dogs are out as well. That silly little turkey started following one of the bantums and suddenly his wings dropped and tail fanned. He looked just like a big turkey only he is only 8 inches tall, It was cute and a bit disturbing as I don't want them picking on the chickens. They may get locked up in a separate pen. We also moved the quail out of the brooder to one of the outside coops. They have grown so much and are so cute it was fun to watch them be outside for the first time. I also had the chicks I just hatched with them.
