Utah!

Aw Lisa, what's going on? Is it the weather? I'm sorry you had to send off your BA. Cheer up, lady

Actually, I do have a bit of a tale. So usually when everyone's loose in the game preserve, if I leave them alone or forget to put them away before dark, everyone goes to bed on their own. The birds all know which pen is theirs. Last night happened to be a night where I didn't get out there to check on them until after dark. I was pretty surprised to see that the two white turkeys and the three BR chicks they hang out with weren't in their usual spot. They'd decided to camp out in the bushes somewhere, so I let them stay out, not knowing that it was going to rain. This morning when I went out, I found the three BR's just as happy as could be. The turkeys? Not so much. They had their feathers all wet and floofed for warmth, and their heads tucked in as much as they could. They ran up to me like, "Hey, it's flipping cold out here!" Hmmm, imagine that

Got everyone fed, and when I looked out back later, I could see all of the turkeys hanging out on one of the chairs we pulled out to the garden to watch chicken tv. It was pretty funny. If I had to caption it, it would be, "Man. This sucks." Accompanied with many grumpy faces.

Welcome, feather! I'll have to go check out pictures of your flock a little later when I'm not trying to hustle to work

Love the names.

Lisa, I have been coughing and coughing! Can't sleep for coughing! Better when I am up, but still coughing. It will hang on.

Here's a "cutsie" picture for you, and no, it isn't a chicken. Should make you smile anyway. :)

Lisa, sorry you're in a mood today. :-( Did you see the video of my cow running for his bottle? In case not, here's a link:

Feather, my flock consists of: a blrw, a rir, a glw, a lavender ameraucana (or two), two cream legbars, two black copper marans, an olive egger (actually two), two polish, a coronation sussex, a black sex link, and three more, can't remember at the moment.

We bought one of those automatic doors for the new coop. Ed was installing it. He had it leaning against the side of the coop while he was cutting the door hole. One of the chickens jumped against it and knocked it down on top of another chicken who was killed, I was very said as it was my gold lace polish who was my favorite chicken, At least she did not suffer, Seems like i try to do the right thing and it backfires. Oh well the other chickens like it. I have it set to open at 800 AM and close at 900 pm. This morning when it opened all the chickens inside were standing around watching it. they they all went out into the new run. I'm leaving either today or tomorrow morning so I will take pictures when I get back. The door was made here in Utah, The guy lives in West Jordan Just a couple of miles where I live. My house sitter is fascinated. He is African and can't believe how I take care of my animals. He told me his people in Africa would love a house like my new chicken house. I am going to Gilbert Az to attend my grandsons 5th birthday. be back next week some time.

Ack! Sundance, sorry about your Polish

I know how you feel. It's just one thing after another, isn't it? I'm glad you guys got the new run and coop done okay, other than that. My BF has considered getting an automatic door for a large new coop at his place, but we'll see what works out. Have fun in AZ! Be safe.

Cynthia, you probably already have one, but are you using a humidifier where you sleep? That helps me immensely when I'm coughing and can't rest. I wish I lived closer to you. I'd totally be over there to help however I can. I don't like it when people are sick like that and I can't do a thing about it.

Ditto on the humidifier, and Vicks vapo-rub too! My doc gives me an albuterol inhaler, and it is magical when I get bronchitis...the cough is awful, but wow my abs get in shape fast....the only positive side, hehe!

Sundance be safe, have a fun trip! Sorry about your baby....she was adorable dang it! Cannot wait to see the whole setup when you get back. Cynthia, thanks for a pooch pic :) It did make me smile. And your cow video Sphinx, what a cute calf. And Red your story...so funny. I knew I would feel better after checking in with my chicken friends :D

Oh, Sundance, I am so, so sorry about your polish. I know she was your favorite, and she was such a pretty girl. If you want, I'll give you hatching eggs from my polish in a few months (when they're laying...) I would've just sat down and cried.

I hope you have a safe trip to AZ.

I also have a speckled sussex. Sorry, a friend came by as I was typing my last response and didn't write out all my chickens. I insulated my first coop with those styrofoam panels they use on garage doors. The chickens kept pecking at them, so I had to add a layer of board over them. Then, the mice started making tunnels. I doubt they're doing much good nowadays.

What a weird egg----from my Marans. The same one that laid the brown speckled one that was so neat. Looks like it was spray painted white on one end. Or brown on one end....so weird! Hope they go back to being cute, this is NOT cute lol

Hmmmm....I wet it down and the egg is dark under that white, it kind of scratches off. Weird stuff on my egg! Does anybody know what that is about?

Wow, is that what they call bloom? Like an excess there of? I seem to recall running into a Lavender Egger thread somewhere and the bloom and dark brown was what caused the lavender eggs. It has been a while and I read a lot.

Anyhow, I came on here to offer my DH's services on the train thing. Not sure how you all work it, but he travels all over the state, up to ID, WY, and MT, and sometimes different areas in NV. He tends to be down around Provo area and up in Logan a lot. So...if anyone is needing to transport chickies, chances are, with notice, we can help. I finally remembered that I have been meaining to offer because he is in Logan today. So, there's my attempt at being friendly
