Valentine's Day 1st Annual Hatch Along

NNNDDD, everybody post at the same time!!
lol

All I can say is great minds think alike! ;)

@emvickrey and @Alaskan for different groups of eggs hatching in 1 bator, try plastic canvas or hardware cloth made in a fence to reach across and up to just under the heat element for dividing... hardware cloth works best, especially for the very active LF chicks, they can bend the plastic canvas and get to the other side... keeps them separate and no worries about opening the bator til hatch is done...

These chicks internal pipped on Tues.,

pic were taken outside the incubator. (they were in I was out.)

I woke at 3 to find this black NN/frizzle hatched. Then at 5 in the morning I took pics as the yellow NN/frizzle was hatching. Oh the drama...

this pic below is bad, but she was wearing the top of the egg as a hat...

next 2 pics were her out and about..

Painting the nails, how long does that last? I"ve been trying to figure out how to keep the different breeders separate so I know who came from who's lines with the english orps i'm hoping to hatch. I bought some small zip ties I was gonna use. They can always be clipped off and replaced when they grow out of it. I planned to use different color for each breeder. I like to try to keep records of any I get from somebody else. sometimes I can remember but with the english orps they came from people I don't know and I couldn't quote their names right now without looking in the paperwork for it. Old age can be cruel.

i use tiny tiny zipties...the loom bands are a good idea. My zipties last about 2 weeks then i snip and replace with larder zipties which last for quite awhile. The zipties i use are lighter then pheasant color rings and i just put them just small enough so they dont slip off over their foot then clip the excess. i was able to get 100(50purple/50white) of each color in 7 colors for $12 including shipping. So i have white, black, purple, orange, yellow, red, and green. i do think the loom bands(from joanns off brand) would be cheaper and yes lots of colors, so i may switch to those for newly hatched. The juvies might work with those too.

Wow! All the cute little fuzzy/fluffy butts!

I love seeing all the pics. Congrats to all of you and your new additions!

Looks Like we will be joining the fuzzy butt parade here pretty soon, and we are only on day 19. Locked down early yesterday morning and woke this morning with two pips. Guess they wanted to be early birds.

I put food coloring on the chicks. The head works good, or the belly too. Usually have to re-do it every two weeks as it wears off and the feathers grow in. The only problem were the black ones, but they all had some light fuzz on their bums that I put blue coloring on. The olive eggers were all black but had a white spot on their heads that I painted green.

Day 19 sure is boring. I can't turn the eggs or do anything at all with them. LOL So far no signs of wobbling or pips, but I expect a different story tomorrow.
