Valentines day hatch?

Don't worry too much! I've lost power for almost a full day before, right in the middle if a duck incubation.. They got very cold but did great.

Set mine on Friday. My 1st time hatching and they are shipped eggs.

Something I didn't know about until recently is to hold off 3-7 days to turn shipped eggs, it apparently helps the egg "heal" from shipping and gives time for the chick to get strong. I have hatched 5-6 times always shipped eggs and this is the first time I wont be turning or candling, curious to see if it helps the hatch rate.

yeah I usually do 3 days. Gives them some time to get back to normal before turning them all around :) so far, I've been able to hatch out several chicks from shipped eggs. I've got 20 Silkie eggs in the bator now that were shipped to me from California. I am looking forward to seeing what I get :) and it's valentines day to boot

Did you get eggs from papa brooder? I had some eggs come from him in Cali :) I have 8 silkies and 12 silkie/frizzles/sizzles

Alright, here's my horrible pictures. I've never candled before and I have a crappy light. However, I think you can get a good enough idea that I highly doubt these eggs are fertile :( There is still a lot of space in the egg. When I rotate the egg I can still see the yolk move with it. The annoying thing is, I put these in the bator not knowing for sure if they were fertile, but then afterwards each egg she laid that I checked had a bulls eye :( I'm now down to 4 days left and believe I've wasted all this time, when I could have put fertile eggs in before the ones that are in there, were even half way done. I didn't know for sure though, so all I could do was wait it out. Now I'm bummed. I probably have to start all over. It's hard for me to get the eggs on time right now because they freeze so fast.

I'm sorry Jenni77, how many days have those eggs been in the incubator? I just candled mine last night, day 8, and found significant veining and lots of movement on about half my eggs. The other half were duds, not fertile or got too cold before collected and never developed.

UGH :( Time to start all over! Darn it! Any idea if the ones I have that are fertile, might still hatch, even though they had gotten cold? I've seen some people say that they have taken eggs out of the fridge and they still hatched ????
