Vasoline/petroleum jelly/coconut oil

We are expected to get some cold weather in the next day or two. I live in the Black Forest area of Colorado Springs, just south of the Palmer divide. With this being my first winter with chickens, I am learning all kinds of new things. My HOA will not allow electricity to my coupe. So anything goes at this point. I applied some petroleum jelly to my girls combs and waddles this afternoon. Just was curious how often it should be done. I will let you know how it works.

When it "sometimes" gets really cold here I'll put some Vaseline on the hens waddles, comb and legs. I honestly don't really notice that it protects them that much from frostbite.;)
