Very sad day... I lost 12 Ancona ducks to hunters on POSTED land.

I was wondering the same thing about the Pyr. My first thought was "how awful" my second thought was, I'm so glad the dog wasn't injured. Sounds like a bunch of idiots, not true hunters. Ugh! I'm still made about this! I cant imagine how you feel, as mad as I am!

Sending you another hug.

I am SO sorry for your losses. Hope you find out who did this and they are thrown in jail.

I worry about this myself on a daily basis. A good friend had his entire flock of geese stolen from his fenced in yard a week before Thanksgiving last year. They were full grown babies from my geese, which made it even more heart-wrenching.
I put reward notices up for 6 months, but we all know they were dinner.

BTW- I hatched some lovely anconas from an ebay seller up your way....johnlolla or something like that. Doesn't look like they have any right now though.

Update:

I received a call back from a game warded that serves our area. He said that other than shooting with in a couple hundred yards of my house and hunting on posted land, they didn't violate any "laws". I don't understand that. Is it because I don't have any proof or didn't see it actually happen? He was NOT a prick though. He did suggest that I put a call into the sheriff's office to report the incident so if they were to run accross someone with ducks of that description in their possesion, they could do something about it. Possibley requier them to reimburse me for my loss.

I have put a report into the sheriff's office. However, I am not expecting much. Not in an angry many because how likey is it that someone would be able to catch the hunters that did this on a Sunday? They probably did their final hunt that morning before they had to return home.

I am not against hunting at all. In fact, I am a hunter myself. The frusterating part about these "hunters" or I would classify them as poachers, is that they are GUESTS to our area. There has been many violations of our land and now property this year. The first weekend of duck season, we had a "heard" of 4-wheeler tracks through our unharvested been field. We have also had several people driving onto and hunting on our land WITH OUT permission. Most of the time when a hunter asks, we say yes. But when you just assume or trespass, that is disrespectful and I no longer welcome you to our area. I just want people to respect where they are visiting and the land and things that people own, grow, and have that is important to them. This is our livelyhood and this is how we make a living. This is not some unowned land that you can just come trapsing on and hunt where, ever, when ever, and what ever you like.

I have placed a call to the "proper" athorities and I am waiting for a call back. The taxidermy thing is a great idea to look into. Thank you everyone for your kind words.

Now I have to rebuild my flock. What is worse is that it is almost off laying season for these guys.

Any Ancona Duck breeder suggestions. I would like show quality and type birds. I do understand they are not regognized but I am still picky.

Thank you again.
So sorry to hear of your loss. I hope these idiots don't come back.

Regarding breeders: I know of a breeder in CA. I don't have ducks but have purchased chickens from her. She is a vet and everyone looks healthy and are well cared for. The website is http://www.thistledownfarmgy.com good luck

So VERY sorry for your loss. How awful that someone would get away with that!!! You must be so angry and hurt. I know I cried for 2 days when a racoon got my 4 ducks, you must be devastated. All my positive thoughts headed your way.

Yes, Johnna. That is where I bought mine from. VERY GOOD breeder. She was very sad and upset about the whole thing. In fact, she was the first person that I called. I am working with her and we talked about varying the colors by buying some hatching eggs with new colors and patterns. It is just so enraging that I have to start all over. 1 hen and two drakes and they happened to be the lowest quality for coloring but perfect birds otherwise.
