Vet tech gets bit - Dog now on death row

It doesn't sound like the vet tech is pushing this. It's the city.

I'm curious why. Does the dog have a history of biting someone else? There has to be more to this. (not that it would be the first time a city does something really stupid)

weird.

I was a Vet tech. for years and I was never bitten. I feel very proud of that. I was snapped at countless times and scratched by cats countless times, but never bitten. I went to school for my training and was certified. Getting bitten was discussed at length and I learned (going through rotation) many different ways to prevent it. You go into that job knowing that it is a huge possibility on a daily basis that it might happen. I can remember my instructor talking about how you would be able to tell when a dog was about to bite. At the time I thought "no way" will I be able to tell and actually it became second nature to me and maybe that is why I was lucky enough to avoid it for so long. I am shocked that a Vet tech would even consider taking any action against a dog for this reason. Many dogs are very frightened just being at the vet, some think it's play time. Under anesthesia dogs, cats and humans can do very strange things. Under NO circumstance do you put your face in any animals face. I think the vet tech was inexperienced. I hope everything turns out well for the little pooch and the vet tech needs to find another job...... I signed!

I see this different than most of you. Having worked for a vet, the owner would have not been holding the dog for a procedure. And the vet tech probably went near the dog and happened to have a pair of scissors in her hand maybe just returning them to the room. The dog bit to defend what it felt was it's property, it's owner. The dog crying because it wants to be covered screams to me that the dog probablly runs the household. And therefore sees it's owners as a possesion. If this had been a rott or a pit many of you would probablly feel different. Granted the bite would have been much worse. It drives me crazy seeing little dogs act possesive of an owner and everyone just laughing. It is aggressive but I don't feel the dog should be put down for 1 bite.

I agree that it shouldn't be put down, but small dogs statistically perpetuate the majority of all bites against humans by canine.

My dog doesn't leave my side when he's getting worked on. He'd tear everyone else up if I wasn't there to protect him when he's defenseless. That's why we keep our dogs in the best shape we can so we don't have to go to the vet often

Whether it be pit, rot, dobe, doxie, rat terrior, poodle, this whole situation is not right. it sounds to me the dog was put into a scary situation and reacted. any animal would. if what we read is true, there was a dental procedure going on, there should of been more control over the animal, whether it medication or muzzle. it just sounds like a shoty job.

opps edited for stupidity -- dental procedure - muzzle kind of doesn't work out sorry...

Seems to be according to a statement released by the animal hospital BUT the vet tech is ALSO pursuing it. General consensus seems to be this city is completely nutty.

In the interest of dog-human relations everywhere, I do have to say I am in full agreement with the vet tech being put down.
