Three eggs today, none from marshmallow or Dot or Pebbles. Sweetie might have layed one. Snowberry was in the nest box when I came in and when I left, I can't tell if she's broody or not, I'll know in the morning. Raspberry only gets off the nest when I make her.
Spice was walking around the coop didn't have too much of an interest in the nests, I think if I gave her eggs and her own pen she would stay on the nest. She's easily distracted or gets kicked off the nest. Last year when she was broody she didn't get off the nest often.

I've recently joined and have been reading your threads from way back, you certainly go through some chickens, I started two years ago with two, then got another two- they have both recently died. I still have the original two an Australop, I'm from Australia so had to get one of them, didn't realise they come in different colours? Or did I misread that bit.
Anyway, glad your marshmallow is still about she's lovely.

Welcome! Yes, Marshmallow is really great :D I love australorps but I didn't get mine from Australia.
What do you mean by "I go through chickens"? I have only lost two adult chickens since I moved to Mn/started this thread two years ago.
At our old house we would lose at least two chickens every year. We got 12 chickens in 2011 and when we moved in 2014 only three were left.

Snowberry why must you play tricks on me?! She was not on the nest or making broody clucks this evening so she is not broody. Which is good, I need her eggs.
I don't think spice is broody anymore, she wasn't on the nest.
Wisteria was on the nest being a cranky layer when I left.

Got four eggs today plus one from dot or pebbles. Snowberry is very broody.

When I was colleting eggs I noticed there were tiny black dots on them. I looked closer and they were mites. Snowberry had been on the nests so I checked her for mites, didn't see any. Then I checked raspberry and she was infested, so I threw her outside and cleaned the nest boxes out. Then I took her inside and gave her a bath. The mites were caked around her butt, I felt so bad. Poor raspberry I should've known this would happen :( she was broody too long.
