Virginia Swap Meet ~ Powhatan April 18th

You don't need to swap anything - everyone takes cash! Last time I was so proud of myself - I sold my rabbits and chickens and didn't buy anything! This time I'm going to be buying some, too.

I'll be bringing:

All my EEs - 4 hens and a roo (hatched 3/31/08) All are laying very well - 3 lay green or blue eggs and one lays a pinkish egg and I can't figure out which one lays the pink egg
roll.png
$15 each for the hens, $5 for the roo

Trio of Porcelain Belgian Bearded d'Uccle bantams (hatched 4-8-08) Girls are laying - I'd like these guys to go together. $25 for trio

Holland Lop buck born June 08- tortise color - shedding right now - SQ lines but he did bite me once on the arm, so I don't want him in my breeding program SOLD

4-month-old EE and EE/RIR mix - not 100% sure of the gender but think they're cockrels, $2 each

Would consider trades for adults, chicks or hatching eggs for any of the following:
Old English Game Bantams
Barred Rocks
Marans
Coturnix quail
Button quail
Buff Laced Polish standard size

I'm hoping someone brings some silkies and are willing to sell off one of the girls without a roo. I need another bantam like a hole in the head (I don't care for the smaller egg and I can't ever seem able to even just give them away).

For me it's all about the "prettiest" and healthiest looking chicken... and my list may change but from what I've seen online here's what I liked... even if they were all there, I can't get them all so I'll have to figure out what my favorite is.

Brahma
Barnevelder
Orpington
RI or Red (but not both)
Wyandotte
Delaware
Campine

I wanted to get a roo this go around, but DH overruled that decision for now. My buff Japanese banty girl is sititng on 6 eggs and so if any hatch, I am positive they'll all be roos - knowing my luck.

No matter if you are a beginner or have been raising barnyard animals for decades, the swap will have people who have a wealth of information. Tons of knowledge to be gleaned from people with all levels of experience. Absolutely come to the swap. You'll have fun too!

Oh, please tell me you have atleast one silkie hen. We lost our white silkie, "Lady" a few days ago and her partner in crime "Cogburn" is in mourning. He just wanders back and forth all day long.

Poor thing. He needs a new mate.

Or a few...

Well they are 16, maybe 17 weeks and one is for sure a roo. The other two seem like pullets but with silkies who knows. The silkie pen is too small for this many grown silkies so I need to get rid of three. The known roo crows also which is not particularly good in a subdivision but he does not crow too loudly so I am sure only the immediate neighbors know if they are outside at the time. I think he is a buff, at least he was a buff chick but now he has the blue in his tail and wings. A bit dark but I don't think he is red. He is the only one without a crest and his eyes are lighter. He is a nice guy though and is in love with my marans pullet who thinks she is a silkie and is annoyed she is not in their pen anymore.

I have a white that I think is a pullet because she squats down BUT (big but) she has a bad eye due to a birth defect, probably from my poor incubator techinque

. She is very, very pretty but not for breeding unless you really want to take your chances about the eye thing. I didn't want her in our pen incase we hatched some. The other one will be either a splash with a tiny bit of brown or the partridge. My son thinks they are hens but who knows with silkies and I haven't looked at them lately much. I don't think he has decided yet which of the last two to sell.

I just called Mrs. Hertzler to confirm. They are having the Fun Day at the Farm this Saturday. There will NOT be a vendor fee after all, but she's done a lot of advertising and is expecting a huge crowd. TSC had one a few weeks ago, but there was nothing there. This will be the place to be. I'm excited to do something fun outside after a week of rain. The weather is supposed to be gorgeous.

Nothing there? Then you must have gotten there very late. There were HUNDREDS of chickens, also quail, several goats and even turkey and craft items.

The event at TSC was a HUGE success and during the earlier hours of the swap before people left to home as they had sold everything there were more than a dozen vendors.

I personally had an excellent day selling over 200 chicks and young chickens.

Obviously there is going to be a conflict with 2 businesses having swap meets in the same town. Personally I think both will be great days but I certainly don't think the swap at TSC was a failure in any way. Especially since TSC asked for another swap as they had such great sales that day.
