Viva Las Vegas!

Where did you get your pretty blue hen? If at a feed store they may know what they sold you.

So glad to hear that Meg is feeling a bit better! May she continue to improve! Good job and good luck.

We got her at Nellis F/T, but they thought she was a silkie. Actually, they were speaking a lot of Spanish and hubby not so much...She is very nice looking. She and the buff colored one always stand out b/c all the rest are RIRs. Plus I think the feathered feet make them look neat.

She is definitely a good looking bird!

With the temps predicted to hit 106 tomorrow is anyone doing anything special for your flocks?
Other than the obvious of making sure they have plenty of water I never have.

Sorry I haven't been on for a couple days. It's getting crazy with the final days of school looming near and I have also had my nephew here for a few days. He's so cute and smart but he never slows down!

Yuck! It's soooooooooooo hot and HUMID!!! I put frozen 2 liter bottles in their water to cool it down. I also sprayed down the walls several times. I might have misted the girls as well.

Whatever works. I can't wait to get some fruit trees and vines growing in their run so they have the coolness of vegetation to help them cool off. I need to make some frozen treats for them. My friend that I get hatching eggs from lost a hen from the heat yesterday.

Love the swamp cooler idea. My girls really hate the wind though so I'd have to aim it away from them or something.

How is Meg doing?

I loaned my little 3 egg automatic incubator to my buddy Hoss' son Cody last month and he had a perfect hatch last weekend! He's hooked now and already snuck three more eggs into the bator.

See? That's how the madness begins! That's awesome!

Here's an update on the Broody Mama Drama...
It looks like I may have broke Marley's broody behavior when I moved her. She's still in the Coopa with Casino, but she hasn't been on the wooden eggs for a couple days. I'm leaving her in there to see if she'll change her mind. Meanwhile, Casino is like glue! She just sits there all zen and in the zone. I'm glad she's so reliable cuz she's got 13 eggs to cover. I should probably candle them so I can lighten her load. Hmmm...maybe tonight. It's so hot it seems like she could just turn them now and then and go about her business!

Speaking of hot...I put crushed ice in containers in the runs and gave the girls cold cucumbers, tomatoes, apples and tomatillos that were less than perfect. I also mixed old homemade vegetable soup, wheat and oats in cool whip containers, added water, put on the lids and stuck them in the freezer. Hopefully those will make a cool treat for them in a day or so.

I need to get some more photos!
