Waiting for 9/22 hatch date! I put fertile eggs under the broody hen!

Still no chicks but the eggs are rocking and peeping. I can even see the little beaks poking out working away at that shell. Unfortunately I have to go to work today and I will have to leave them. I just hope I don't come home to bad news and that I have 2 little fuzzies. I think they have a way to go still, several hours at least.

*****UPDATE****

We have chicks! I went out an hour and a half later to let the girls out and lock mom in and I heard lots of peeping. Two wet chicks hiding under mom! That was faster than I thought when I saw the progress as of early this morning. Francesca is happy as can be. One is blackish and one is gold/red (breed: barnyard surprise). Fran seems like she knows what she's doing.

I laughed at a friend who bought a horse and then bought a farm for her horse. These chicken are addicting and, well,.....

Am I the last broody batch for September on this thread?

Still waiting on that last egg in the incubator to hatch. I've a question for all you expirenced hatchers out there. Once the egg is all shadow but the air pocket how long till action? Days or weeks? I'm wondering if I'm incubating a stink bomb here.

Well, we have given up on our last 2 eggs, but I can't complain about a 5 out of 7 hatch on shipped eggs! Thanks quailladyoffortmyers! The 5 chicks are growing quickly and are already getting their wing feathers!

You are at what day? 25 or so?

I only let the eggs go until day 25. It's unlikely you'll get any more hatching after that. (for chicken eggs). If you are only seeing dark, you may have a full term death. Do you see any movement, hear peeping, anything? I've had a few full term deaths, my last one even pipped, then died. I open all my eggs to learn, and I start by making a pip in the wide end, just in case there is a live chick inside.

You don't have the last hatch. I still have two eggs under a broody. We candled again, and saw movement from both, more from one than the other, and the more active appeared to be into the air cell, so I am hoping for a hatch during the night, and not asphyxiated babies by morning.

If we do not end up hatching, my plan B was to go to the last store that I know of who got chicks recently (Friday, to be exact) and get two chicks to sneak under her at night. If they are about five days old, or so, will this still work? Or, do I need to order a minimum number from MyPetChicken, and place them the night of arrival?

Mine are day 26. We thought we heard cheeping on day 23 or 24, but... No movement or anything now. Time to get rid of them...

Still digging the 5 that hatched! I can't believe how fast they grow! They will be one week tomorrow!

Exactly what I was going to do! I'm in Oregon too and they have several of my favorite breeds in. I have actually contemplated adding a couple anyway! But I have the same age question since they would be 4 or 5 day old chicks. I think the broody would accept them but I don't know if they have to imprint on mom or not. I'm no expert though.

Mine pipped yesterday late afternoon. Then Nothing. Couldn't sleep at all last night. Checked about 5am - no babies but definite peeping and moving. It's really hard peeking under a ticked off bird. 2 hours later - babies!

Good wishes for two new fuzzballs by morning!

Im not sure when exactly this egg was laid so im gonna give it untill thursday and dispose of it if there are still no signs of life. The incubator is in my guest room so I dont want to have an egg pop in there.

The stink bomb hatched and is chirping away. How long should I leave it in the incubator before moving it to a brooder?
