(WARNING: nasty photo of injury) What got her and is there any hope for recovery?

Thank you, Roseyred! I will locate some of that Manuka honey (maybe at Whole Foods?) and use it today. Thank you for your kind words of encouragement. I am scared that I'm not treating her wounds well enough and adding to her suffering.

Good luck to your hen! No advice here but just wanted to encourage you. I'm glad she's got such a caring, devoted owner taking care of her. I have a turkey with a pretty nasty head wound and am now off to get some raw honey from the farmer's market in a bit!

You are helping her out and I know she's a very thankful lil hen. Her bum looks good to me. I've seen many open horse wounds and the fact that it's pink is a good sign. Your doing great. The hardest part is gonna be when it starts healing and forming a scab. Gotta be sure to keep it extra clean and help it heal and scab correctly. The manuka honey will help alot

Just had a thought. You might have to mix the manuka honey with water or coconut oil as its really thick and could be hard to apply. Maybe like 3-1 ratio of honey to warm water. That way it's not too thick but not gonna be too runny and come off

Thank you for the advice. I called a nearby grocery store that specializes in organic and more natural items, and they sell this type of honey. I'm going out in a little while to get some and the oil to mix with it, in case it is too thick. I sure appreciate your help! Thank you!!!

If those sacs hold clear fluid it's somehting called "lymph" which is indicative of healing, no need to drain. If it's murky, yellow, green or stinky then it is pus, and it should be drained then pack that area with a triple antibiotic ointment like bacitracin or polysporin.
Good luck! If she's lived this long there is hope :)

The coconut oil is also a great healing oil. It's antibacterial and should help the skin heal really well. Make sure you get organic unrefined coconut oil for the most health benefits. I'm tryna think what other thigs you can feed her to help her heal. Diet when injured is just as important as treating the injury.

Monday night and the little hen is looking worse. Or am I wrong? It seems that she has a few places that may be infected....what do you think? I opened them and smeared them thoroughly with antibiotic cream. I stopped after work and bought her some tetracycline hydrochloride soluble powder that has been mixed into her drinking water. Tomorrow after work I will try to locate some additional food items to feed her. We decided to continue trying for a couple more days with the tetracycline in her water and the topical treatments (found some Manuka honey!) and the Neosporin, but if that doesn't help her, or her situation takes a huge turn for the worse, we will end her suffering. Thank you SO much for your help. If not for your kind advice and guidance, I would have driven her straight to the vet to be put down right away. Thanks to you guys, at least she has a chance of recovery.

Please keep us updated and take lots of pics so we can help! I don't think it looks infected. Think of a fresh cut. It's pink and soft..it looks like it's healing and darkening to me. Infection would smell. Does it? You might be able to get a diaper on her! For like 12 hours of the day and then 12 off and slather the diaper with coconut oil and honey. It needs air to breath but it's also raw so it needs protection. The protection will help it heal the soft tissue, the air will help it heal in a scab kinda way.

And in my honest opinion it DOES look better. It's much clearer and looks less irritated and softer. I would keep it up
