Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Hi there, I'm very excited to get my first chicks next week and will be purchasing them from my local Costal Farm and Ranch the first day they came in. But somebody told me that the chicks from there can often end up disabled or have diseases is this true? Or are the birds from there pretty good?

Make sure you pick out active moving ones from the bins. The employees should let you say "that one there" pointing to it

I'm sure the chicks will be just fine, I started out getting chicks from farm stores. Enjoy them and have fun...:clap

Jessica, how was you visit with Renee. I forgot to ask you to have her give me an update on the eggs. I sent her a PM, maybe I will text her.

Thanks it was great! But we changed plans and I didn't get to go over there. We met at the park and had lunch together, let the kids play out in the freezing weather on the playground while we chatted in the warm car, then went to Reber Ranch for a while. You should text her, she's not here much! It was a great visit though and they're doing well. I don't know about the chicks in the 'bator.

Today I finally bought the nice nipples from Reber so I can make my waterer. I'm really excited to get it done, DH is going to help me tomorrow. I also saved a 2L bottle from our outing today and will make a single 2L nipple waterer for Lucy and the chicks. Will be better than the one they're currently pooping in and raking shavings into all day long.

I wanted to share this amazing link/book by Bruce Campbell (if you haven't read into it already) about reforestation in the Willamette Valley. I can imagine it is highly adaptable advise for where ever you are if you look in to native plants. It made me happy to stumble across it

When I was at Del's shortly after I got my driver's license, I was looking in the chick bins and noticed a sad little GSL with a bloody bum. The others were picking on her; she was so sad and pathetic. I took her and two others home with me. Poor mom had to set up the brooder really fast. If I hadn't taken her, they would have "placed her in a box in the back" (AKA the garbage). She's the only one left of the three, with a few wonky tail feathers sticking out of the main tail. Sometimes you just gotta help a poor defenseless creature that others would just throw in the trash.
