I'd better see and hear bells -- DANGIT ! Are you bringing your three snot machines?

I can bring more than just 12. I'm getting close to a dozen a day from that group of 12 girls, so I just need a heads up. (Black sex-link eggs. NH Roo over Pabst Blue Ribbon Hens)

Hi Washingtonians! Here's an update from my issue yesterday. Still an issue, unfortunately...

The good news is she won't slow down so it was difficult to get a photo. I have separated her from the rest of the birds and have her in her own little space with food and water. I irrigated her eye with saline solution and it was less puffy by the time I did this, so I decided not to do neosporin (even though my neosporin doesn't appear to have any pain meds in it so it would probably be okay).

I let her out for a few minutes this morning and she ran around the yard free ranging. She seems healthy (for now) except the eye, but I don't want to take any chances. I haven't seen her sneezing, she's as feitsy as ever, and she is eating still.

Here are photos of her eyes, let me know what you think. First her "normal" eye:

Next her "bad" eye:

Yesterday it was more puffy, more towards the front of the eye (almost seemed as if it was pushing her eyeball backward). And it was more enflamed/enlarged above the eyeball in a way that made it seem like she had a big, angry eyebrow. I hope this is making sense! Any help/advice much appreciated!

Oh no, oh no, eye infection?!

Here's what I think I'm going to do first:
Separate her from the others
Take a warm wet cloth to her eye
Clean with eye drops
put some neosporin on the infected flesh

Please let me know what you think I should do. If you recommend buying certain products, what store has these products in the south sound region?

Oh... I just saw this Please DO NOT get neosporin in an eye!!! My mom accidentally did that and ended up at the doc! He told us it is VERY bad for eyes, unless it's formulated specifically for eyes!

SadieSue..... You're daughter looks so professional! You done good!

ChickieLady.... Love those pics of your daughter and her family. What a totally sweet little baby! Love that dress and blanket, it just makes me want to snuggle her.

That looks like "bully eye" to me. Generally it is a bacterial infection.

If it were an upper respiratory bug you would see swelling in the nasal areas. If you can find some eye drops she should be fine.

They call this bully eye because it looks like someone walked up to them and punched them right in the eye.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. Because of the possibility of getting the neosporin IN the eye, I just decided it wasn't worth it and skipped the neosporin part. I very much appreciate your advice.

A friend of mine just posted on Facebook that her daughter called from Reeves Middle School in Olympia from a locked room. The school is in lockdown. Her daughter said a man was seen entering the school carrying a rifle and shouting profanities. This is all third hand information right now but I think some good thoughts could be used for those kids and teachers who are in lockdown without knowing what is happening outside their doors.

I'm not seeing any new information yet. Let's hope this all blows over without serious incident.

ETA: This just now from the mother -
"School just called school will remain on lockdown today police are with the kids inside and all other kids are being held at the private elementary school close by. All I know so far".
