I will be wearing my Isle of Vashon biker shirt. It's the closest I have to a biker chicky shirt. But WHAT COLOR hoodie. I really doubt you will be the only one in a hoodie...
I would love to get a oatmeal, milk and honey lotion bar from you along with a few bars of soap.Wow - so much reading to catch up!
ChickieLady - Congratulations!!! What a beautiful baby![]()
Pips&Peeps - Beautiful scarves! I will have to see what is left when I get to the show.
SadieSue - Congrats to your daughter! Bet you're a proud mama![]()
Speaking of the show...I'll bring some Sudsy Chick soap, shampoo, & conditioner bars for anyone that would like to purchase without shipping costs.
(Please let me know in advance if you'd like me to bring liquid soap or lotion bars. To see the list of fragrances, I have, see my Etsy shop.)
Looks like a trip to Freddies is order ThanksYes, yes, - Jess is right-
Daiya cheese came out with "wedges" which are tubs of cheese recently. The Jack is delicious and could substitute for cream cheese. The Havarti is the softest cheese "wedge", but it has jalepenos in it. (or maybe you want jelepenos for your recipe- whatever you are making?)
You can buy it at Fred Meyer and I'm sure the Oly Co-op has it. I know Safeway has Daiya shreds. ALL of the flavors are very good. I have tried every single fake cheese on the market in the decade+ of our dairy free journey and it's the only one I'll eat- except the homemade cheese sauces made from soaked raw cashews.
I made mac & cheese with Daiya, grilled cheese sandwiches, cheese burgers, quesdillas, chile con queso dip, toss chreds on taco salads and in greek salads (still miss my goat cheese, but I'm over the pouting almost), cheese N crackers, etc.
Thanksi think most people who have problems with dairy are actually reacting to A1 casein (Holstein dairy). If you can get cheese made from Jersey or Guernsey cows that would be the A2 that is less of a problem. Goat cheese is also A2 and goat Chèvre is available and similar to cream cheese in texture, but I'm not sure it would be good for things like cake icing.
Are you kickin out your CGG chicks?I just got an e-mail from Wilco with their spring sale flyer. Dang! They have chick starter on sale. For just $3 more I can get 5 times as much as I got last week at Del's. Too bad I don't have some coupons for Purina. Didn't think I'd ever use them. Just goes to show you should never turn down (or throw away) a coupon!![]()
Today I'm setting up the dog kennel for my 4 chicks. They're 15 days old now and really rambunctious! Every time I open the lid to clean, somebody makes a leap for freedom! So cute! But the bigger space will be good and they'll even have a perch. My mom is getting her daily dose of belly laughs, laughing at me and chicks!![]()
Calibrate and save a head ache!!I am gonna start it Thursday night and let it run all day Friday and Saturday and then set the eggs Sunday morning. I need to find a small thermometer to set inside the incubator just to make sure its matching up to what is on the display.
Where did you get you GFI Therm?Calibrate your incubator stem thermometers with a glass of WARM water and a HUMAN thermometer...shake it down & insert in the cup of water, add your incubator stem thermometers & adjust the nut on the back accordingly.
Not so easy with a digital, but what you do is have to remember what temp the human therm says, and add or subtract that to the digital (which will drive ya crazy: do I add 5 degrees ?
subtract 2 ?) the stem thermometers (like a meat probe) from GFI work great.and can be adjusted by the NUT on the back so they will be right -on.
Wow - so much reading to catch up!

So, the Home Depot guy went all the way back to Aberdeen, and drove all the way back here & this time delivered our 2 shower stalls.
Shower stalls are 36 x 48 and the crates seem to be at least 2 feet longer.but would make a nice start for a coop OR 2 separate breeding coops for just a few birds.
FREE COME GET THEM (before I decide I wanna keep them)![]()
DH says NO WAY !!!!!!!!!!!!
If no one claims them, he is gonna cut them up & have a bon fire.
They are 69" LONG
37" WIDE
44" TALL
Seriously, put plywood on the sides, frame a door & a window for air & light, add a roost inside...and PRESTO !!!!!!!!!!
Putting the 2 together to make a single 74" wide X 69" long would be even more coolness~~~~~~~~~~~
Or stack them & do a shed roof on top & make a 2 story coop ?
I made one kinda like that years ago & it had 3 floors with ramps, and 1 big door to open for cleaning...nest boxes on all 3 stories & roosts on top...it was cool, and we called it the (get ready)
Chickie-Boom-Box...................LOL
anyone seriously interested PM me, or else Einstein is getting the saw-zall out !
What are your thoughts on using sand inside a pen or pine savings? I know the pine is easier to haul, but the sand would last longer, right?

Yeah yeah yeah - cute chicks yer showin' off there.Yes, maybe I should have gone ahead and gotten chicks but I do love hatching - there is a delicious anticipation in the whole process for me. And on hatch day when I glue myself to either the incubator or a broody coop - well, it's pretty doggone fun. Plus, I wanted to give the Silkies a good way to spend their time being broody. I didn't know that they would fail miserably at their newest hobby! Thought they could manage to hatch out 3 eggs each - 1 BLRW, 2 bantam Cochins is all I left them. Maybe it's not their fault, who knows.![]()
But I've got those got those good Ameraucana eggs growing right behind me here in DH's computer room! I'm sure the Silkies will be happy to raise them as soon as they hatch. What fun that will be!
So... I haven't raised Wheaten Ameraucana chicks before, but if I were a bettin' woman, I'd put money on Honey and Dot being girls, and Dash maybe being a little boy. I'm no expert but there's just a slight difference in color on the wing tips with Dash's being a little darker. And the combs can be a good early indicator. His is a little more prominent.
I hatched some Wheaten Marans last year for a friend and it was pretty evident to me within a couple of weeks who was who although she was in denial about it. Turned out I was right. She ended up with 5 boys and 1 girl!![]()
So the two eggs that my poor Owl was broody on for two weeks before she was killed, are due to hatch tomorrow night.
The little silkie I stuffed them under has been doing a very good job with them. I did a quick candle a few minutes ago and the one chick is trying to pip internally. Could see it pushing against the membrane. So here's crossing my fingers that the little things make it.
