Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

My poor Silkiebator is not happy. See on the 15th of Feb I put 5 B Fav eggs under her. This would have been our first hatch of B Fav's. Well last night I decided they weren't going to hatch and removed them. Seems that for some reason they never even started.
I had been checking the eggs and they show to be fertile so I have no idea what happened. I will give her a little time off before I try again.

robj... My CGG chicks are definitely in the dog kennel, but they're still in the house with their red light all warm and cozy where I can see and hear them.

What gives my mom the fodder for teasing me, and laughing her head off, is that they are in the Dining Room! You have to understand where she comes from... She's a child of the great depression, 9th child of a dirt poor family, lived in a one bedroom house in the poorest county in E. Washington. They worked like slaves and did everything in their power not to be considered low class. And you didn't bring animals in the house unless you were an Okie, an Arkie, or an Indian! (please don't anyone take offense... that's what it was like for her in the 1920s and 30s). So along comes Carolyn with chickens and a mom that loves to tease, so she keeps saying "Those birds are spoiled rotten." --- "Oh you'll have those chickens in the house pretty soon." --- "Oh, you'll be keeping chicks under the stove pretty soon." Stuff like that just to get a rise outta me. So FIRST I bring chicks into the laundry room, and NOW they've made it past the kitchen and into the Dining Room! EEEE GADS SHE WAS RIGHT!

I too have been raising my littles in the dining room. I don't have a safe place outside and can regulate the heat a little better indoors. My brooder is a huge Sterilite tote, with my heat lamp hanging on a nail under my breakfast bar. My husband laughs at me and says that I am a hillbilly.

He was raised on a farm, I was raised on the outskirts of Tacoma. My grandma had chickens and a pony and sometimes steers for beef, but we were definitely not farm kids. I love hearing their peeps and cheeps in the morning, it also makes it easy to snuggle them and try to keep them friendly. Though, my Delawares seem to be stand-offish no matter how much I hold them.

Got my hovabator set up on a nightstand in the corner of my room.... I thought about setting it up in the living room then I thought better of it. My 3 year old would find his way to PLAY with the eggs... He sure loves his chickens. Tomorrow I am gonna get a thermometer to place inside. I think I am just as excited as the kids are to hatch eggs. I cant wait! I also cant wait to FINALLY meet everyone from BYC after over a year of chatting it will be fun to put a face/name with your BYC names.

Make sure you have it on a non porus surface, or put plastic under it. There are little vent holes in the bottom around the edge. Moisture will come out, or moist air, I am not sure. But I have had moisture build up under mine every time I hatch. Can't block the holes, but don't put on anything that can be ruined by water. I ruined a table in the living room. :/
Just a friendly warning. :D

Foam doesn't clean well either.
When the little ones hatch, they can make a mess.

I line the entire thing with paper towels before hatch day.

Then set up cameras to watch your kids.

So today I bought a tablet/computer thing from best buy! This thing is so darn cool I Love it. It is called the "Surface" . This is the new windows tablet. With that I am still feeling this out and figuring out how to post to this site. The fact that this comes with a cooler than heck detachable key board makes things so much easier than just a tablet. Ok this will seem like a run on paragraph because I can't get the enter key to work, might have to trade the key board in for a different one no biggy. Anyways, in Auburn someone has SPLASH AMERAUCANAS or EEs. which ever they are I want them so badly but there is no way I can drive to Auburn for them. They are $25 each and I found them on CL if anyone wants to get them. Oh I am getting so excited for this Saturday. Not only for seeing and meeting some of ya'll but DH is coming with me too!!!!! I have to head to bed now, but I will hop on tomorrow and chat a bit more. Night everyone.
I have been looking at the "Surface" too, please let me know how you like it in a few weeks!

Quote: Oh, thank you so much. I decided not to buy any more until after the show. That way if I find one there I want my quarantine area will be available.

Man every ones baby chicks, calf, grandbaby and new puppies are so darn cute! Plus the dress Jess made for her daughter is very sweet and those scarfs that (so sorry I forgot who made those, but I want one ) are on her are just way to darn pretty. I am going to need so much darn money for the show this weekend!
I so wish I had some of the talent that you guys have. Maybe some day....

AAAAAHHHHHH I am so excited for this Saturday, I hope DH can handle it and that I don't drive him crazy there. Also we should have ALL five kids with us, so everyone WATCH OUT!

As far as the "Surface", yeah I will keep ya posted. So far I love it and it has been a breeze to figure out and get it set up. No complaints thus far.
