Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Last night, sitting alone at an awards dinner (I got there late and the table with my coworkers was full), my bosses, bosses, boss sits next to me. He is the bad guy that made us lay off people last year (grrrrrrrrrrrrr). Turns out, he lives near me, our kids go to the same school, he has 5 rescue dogs and.........takes in rescue chickens too. He admitted to being crazy about his chickens and loves spending time with them.

I may not look at him the same anymore.

yep, I hear ya on that.

Are you getting exposure from the chicken feed? My son used to get seizures from wheat. Just being in the same room where wheat was being used to cook or bake with.

Do you wear protection when you are dishing out animal feed?
No...but I do hold my breath and I do avoid any dust.
I have been using Franz's new Gluten Free Bread...it is REALLY GOOD and LIGHT and has loads of yeasty holes unlike the rice breads that are so small & heavy like a brick...
Now available at Safeway and a few other grocery stores here.
Cost range from $5 to $6 a loaf....ingredients are:
Water, Brown Rice Flour, Tapioca Flour, Whole Grain Sorghum Flour, eggs, Agave Syrup, Whole Grain Teff, Whole Grain Millet, Xanthum Gum, EVOO, Cultured Brown Rice Flour, Sea Salt, Natural Enzymes.

Gluten is wheat, plus rye, barley, & spelt. (and oats, because they are cross-contaminated)

We are all of those completely free, plus soy and corn. Even my pets are gluten, soy, and corn free (well, chickens get corn, but not cats/dogs)

There's GF bread mixes you can buy, that you just put on the "gluten free" setting on your bread maker. If your bread maker doesn't have an obvious gluten free setting, google the nameof yur breadmaker, plus model plus the words gluten free setting and you will likely find what you are looking for online. For the best recipes, check out autism groups. Lots of moms who are required to cook due to their kids severe allergies have taken the bull by the horns and developed amazing recipes.
Gluten is a protein (gliadin) that is in all those grains except oats, and yes, oats can be contaminated either in the field, or on processing equipment.

awesome! I will PM her!

I got some from heritage not too long ago- great prices!

BTW- right now we found grassfed beef at Trader Joe's, frozen in 1 lb blocks.
I have "to do" Trader Joes after the first of next month (in Olympia) and get a case or two of their Albacore Tuna, as it has NO SOYBEAN OIL.
Soybean oil messes with me almost as bad as Gluten.
Soy protein does not bother me, but I have since found out that Oil soybeans are a different plant than the type grown for Protein.

I guess I hadn't thought of the others you listed as having gluten. I would love to use my books, but have no clue on ways to convert from wheat flour to another type and get "similar" (NOT SAME) results. Any suggestions? I want to get a bread machine again, just haven't because I didn't know if they could be converted to GF breads.
I have been using Pamela's Bread Mix.it is a bit spendy but so far I can subsitute it cup for cup with ANY regular recipe.
They also have awesome recipes right on the bag, for Pancakes, breads, pie crust, several cakes and other goodies.

I am wearing a BIG HOODIE. I plan to be all covered up cept for my eyes.

I will be sure to keep my big giant black shiney chicken away from you !

The trees I miss the most is the Madrona, I grew up in the Rouge Valley of OR and we had several of these on our property, they are so beautiful with their smooth red bark, not viable over here tho.

Actually there is quite a few of them from Olympia to Seattle. There is even a few cosp of Oak around Cabela's area of Olympia. I was surprised !
What, you missed my (thirty, 300-500 year old) oak trees? Dryish bits of the Salish Sea as far north as Savary Island have Garry Oak. Anyone who feels really brave, I have a couple in my flower beds that could be dug out in the next three or four weeks.

Looks like a trip to Freddies is order Thanks
