Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Thanks everyone I am glad you like my chickies!
Quote: Yes they are mutts and are 4 weeks old. Also yes, about 50% of my flock are hatchery birds, (could not even begin to tell ya which ones

) But not only is "he" an EE mix, he started off the same coloring and size of the other two light colored ones and now "he" has the read in his feathering (what I am thinking is his saddle feathers?) also "he" is much bigger than the other two and "he" has HUGE feet and THICK leggs. I have noticed these things to be a pattern in cockerels. Like I said I am 99.9% sure it is a boy but still not quite 100%

. Which ever way it goes, that will be one pretty bird.

You can't color sex mutts at all? My 4 chicks are all mutts.

What about the comb? Cocoa has a pretty big and defined comb compared to the others - and he's all attitude. He's the first to run up and peck me the minute I open the brooder - which is why I pretty much assume he's a cockerel. The other day I asked my husband to help me tame them by holding them. I don't like to hold Cocoa - he fights too much. So, my husband held Cocoa and even got him to go to sleep in his hand. Cocoa must remember that my husband was home when they hatched and he is their chicken momma!

My little Latte is not an EE. The only EE I hatched was Blackie. If I see red showing up on Blackie's shoulders I would jump to the conclusion of Cockerel, too, because I know that is used in color sexing EEs. But, I didn't jump to that conclusion with Latte having red on the shoulders because s/he hatched out of a cream egg and has a daddy who's breed lays a brown egg. Latte is 1/2 Salmon Fav - so I was thinking the reddish feathers might be a Salmon Fav thing.

And the red on Latte's shoulders is more of a light peachy color, not a true red. I thought Salmon Fav pullets where peachy colored? Am I wrong?

I dont have much luck with color sexing mutts at a young age. Yes, color seepage across the back is an indicator that the bird is a boy, but I don't usually notice that at such a young age.

Yes the comb, and the attitude - and what FM said about big thick legs are good indicators that the bird is male.
