Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Just wanted to share pictures of move in day. My new breeding pens are much nicer than old grow out pens and with no adults to clog them up, the babies get to grow up in them.

400

Only divided it in half rather than 4 pens so that the cross piece could serve as perches. Right now segregated by size and being polish. Haha.

Well my girl is impacted. She woke up this morning and still had a crop full of what feels like grass. I'm giving her water with ACV in it, a little greek yogurt with grit in it, but she's not taking much. I wish I could get more grit into her! She just won't eat it. I'm massaging her crop downward as often as I can. She doesn't seem to be improving. :hit

Jess -

NO MORE GRIT.

If her crop is impacted, you only want to give liquids. Grit will only add to the impaction, not help clear it.  Isolate the bird, deny food, allow water with 2TBL of the bleach solution the CL talks about per gallon of water.  Massage the crop often, but not too hard as you don't want to rupture it.  If it is grass, you can try 2 TBL of red wine forced.  This helps balance the pH in the crop as well as helping to disolve the grass.

Good luck.

Thank you!! I haven't found a difinitive post on exactly what to do for this. She seems like she may be improving a little bit, the only reason I say this is because she keeps pooping; it's definitely diarrhea but there's still scant solids in each pile. I will have DH pick up the red wine after work, and will stop the grit for now. Will mix the bleach solution now too.

That's 2 TBLS of a solution of bleach and water, not 2 TBLS per gal. Just in case there was some confusion. Q. is your water already chlorinated?

I made it to the end and your chicken isn't feeling well Jess? That sucks! I hope she pulls out of her impacted crop.

I saw a poster not too long ago from around 1952 in France, where they claimed that soaking bread in wine and giving it to your chickens helps them lay more. I am so up for drinking with my chickens!

BTW - Has anybody heard from JennS? Haven't seen her on in awhile, hope everything is ok.

Well, then I'm glad my 2 girls are not interested in sitting on their eggs.
They rather go make a mud puddle and see if a worm pops out,

or run to the nearest water tub at top speed for a sip and a dunk...
pronto...just in case the water tub dries out while they were not looking.
They remind me of Alice in Wonderland's bunny.

Our worms are all up on the surface, crawling up on anything they can (Gary found some in the rain gutters) cuz they is drownin' in all this rain !

Sorry, I don't know the solution for that.
In the past I tried using safety goggles for sanding & painting and like you said no go.
Tell you this much, if they not fogging up you aren't working. LOL!

I do know wearing that second wet mask solution works as every once in a great while I have to use it on paint jobs that due to the way the job site is laid out the proper amount of ventilation is not attainable so to much paint is left in the air while back rolling.

If I were you to counter your situation I'd try doing two jobs while doing your insulation work.
Not only would it give your eye's a rest it helps switching off muscle groups.

Like I tell people it does no good to get a job done if you are to wiped out the next day to continue working.

That is why I tell homeowners who paint to place their roller in the paint pan wrapped in visqueen and go do something else and then come back to rolling out your ceiling
The visqueen allows you to not have to clean up your equipment and the time away allows your muscles to not start inflammation.
I have had homeowners tell me after rolling out ceilings they had to go to the chiropractor which doesn't surprise me.
Like insulation that is using muscles one doesn't use.

Even though I do it for a living I still 30 years later have to take a day off sometimes when I been back rolling ceilings for days after texturing due to scheduling.

Listen to your body and you'll get much more work done in the end while the others are at the chiropractor.
Good advice !

I do a little bit of everything, all day.
Clean chick pens, do dishes, wrapped up eggs to ship, now on line, after this I go stuff some more insulation.
The bad part about doing a little insulation every so often, is how covered with the itchy stuff you can get, and want to change clothes & get a shower.
Maybe Einstein can invent a clear plastic astronaut helmet with cooling fan and filtration.............................
