Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

If sitting quietly with them does not work... chase them all over while shrieking and trying to smack them with a broom. They certainly won't like you much afterwards... but normal, everyday life sure won't seem so terrifying afterwards!

I am always here to help. Lol
That would be CarolynF you're trying to help, not me.

And did you all know that chickens are genetically engineered to distrust & even hate BROOMS ??????????????
Sometimes I think it goes all the way back to good ol'BAGA YAGA!

(I adore Baga Yaga !)

But seriously folks...............even a 3 week old chicken will take sidelong looks at a broom resting by the doorway, and RUN BY SCARED TO DEATH !!! It is in their genes !

Yes! Yes! They can stay in the overhang above the driver's seat...we'll put in a couple of perches, their food & water and they can look out the window as we drive. Since that is the biggest bed, my husband will have to sleep up there with them, too, and I'll make up the table area into a bed and sleep there. Now, I'll just have to teach them how to walk on a leash so that they won't get lost when we stop for gas and bathroom breaks. Wait ! I said "perch". What was I thinking? They don't know how to sit on the perch, yet. I guess they can't come with us after all. So much for fresh eggs when we go camping.

My wife and I are so overjoyed, I just had to drop in and post pictures of our broody momma, and her six chicks. I frequent BYC on facebook more then I do the actual website lol. To many posts to keep up with on this thread. On to the babies!

Momma: Black Copper Marans
3 Buff Laced Polish: from Papa's Poultry fertile egg.
1 Olive Egger: from Papa's Poultry fertile egg.
1 Lavender Orpington: from Jennifer (Aisling Farms)
1 Gold Copper Marans: from Travis Lacey

All one big happy family! We introduced the GCM and LO pullets this afternoon. They hatched a day before ours did. It went off without a hitch, like they knew they were family.

And I also finally got around to finished our rooster weather vane as well. Here is a picture of it. I will be updating my coop page with more specifics on the weather vane though.

Hatching with a broody momma was such an awesome experience. I highly recommend doing it to anyone who is able too!
