Have been taking care of my daughters dachshund (spelling), He flushed a mother hen i didn't know about and i went after thinking he was attacking her, when in reality she was attacking him flying at him full spread eagle, pretty and impressive, wish i had a camera….found several lil chicks….now neither cat or Buddy can go out side til i find and place in safety….Am glad our dog doesn't do that…...
WOW...good thing you found them !

Hey everyone, sorry I've been MIA. The change of season has been affecting my sinuses, especially rough this year for whatever reason. Was watching something on the news about some warm weather blob off the coast causing the weather to be warmer which was affecting the weather and blah blah blah. Which means basically I need to figure out how to cope with this possibly permanent change in my allergies. Meal worm sales are going better than I expected. Still have 5,500 left although rumor has it someone is on their way for 500. Was informed by someone that not many people sell meal worms in the area? If that's the case then I'll have to bump up my production so that they are available more often.

We are drawing up plans for our coop as we speak. We bought six chicks four buff orpingtons and two golden sex links. We only wanted two though because we made a trade deal with someone for some barred rocks, delawares, and rhode island reds. Since we only wanted eight, at some point I'm going to put the other two buff orpingtons and the two golden sex links up. I was informed after the fact by a nice lady that came to get mealworms from me that the new farm supply store in Auburn (that I can't remember the name of right now) will let you buy one chick. So, for future reference I guess.

I guess the quote didn't work but I'll be watching for the maraks vaccination day. Oh and fingers crossed, I might be getting a better job that gives me weekends so I can go to the chicken shows.

My wife and I are so overjoyed, I just had to drop in and post pictures of our broody momma, and her six chicks. I frequent BYC on facebook more then I do the actual website lol. To many posts to keep up with on this thread. On to the babies!

Momma: Black Copper Marans
3 Buff Laced Polish: from Papa's Poultry fertile egg.
1 Olive Egger: from Papa's Poultry fertile egg.
1 Lavender Orpington: from Jennifer (Aisling Farms)
1 Gold Copper Marans: from Travis Lacey

All one big happy family! We introduced the GCM and LO pullets this afternoon. They hatched a day before ours did. It went off without a hitch, like they knew they were family.

Hatching with a broody momma was such an awesome experience. I highly recommend doing it to anyone who is able too!la

Congratulations!

*Note to self*
Do not post outside this thread. You have now been completely ignored twice, once while asking a rather legitimate question... and now have been reminded why you moved 3000 miles away from Upstate NY where you were raised. Jeppers!

Hello all! Very new chicken mama here and I have a question. How far away should a roost be away from the nesting boxes? There are two in our coop, one of which is about 6-8" in front of the nest boxes. I'll include a picture where you can see the roost in front of the area where the boxes will be (external),
400

Sorry for the sideways picture!
