Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

She's 6 months old, and after seeing a video of roosters, she decided that strange chicken noises were the missing piece to our livelihood. Think chicken going down the garbage disposal butt first, but with no real reason for the raucous.

you know me thinks you are right there have the lavender group now waiting

Lavender Ameraucana are hard to sex. They are slow to develop and with the uniform color there are no hints in coloring to help. The lavender gene can also cause weak, brittle feathers that fray easily, making it difficult to distinguish poor quality feathering from male specific feathering.

just biding my time till it crows or lays an egg then will weed cockerel out one by one hopefully will have 5 or 6 pullets of the 11.. seem to have feathering no issue tail all have them to some degree but am starting to see a bit of red showing at the nare on some but only like 2 so far

Goku didn't know what to think about his manbun. He's the only boy I have who I can actually pull the crest up in a topknot

Thanks. Goku there is super sweet and a stalker, just like Pumice (the hen). Even though she's white, I'm going to do a test breeding of them together when he grows up. I want to see how friendly I can breed a silkie to be.

alright well had put 5 gallon buckets in for nesting boxes kept hearing the bigger birds will break eggs in them so bout 4 10 gallon sterilight tubs at wally world 3.97 each cut the fronts out with a grinder wheel and wala nesting boxes

We have a covered litter box that works well for a nest box for Gurtrude. Since both of our chickens are indoor gals, the bantam, Lizbeth, is using the bottom half of a shoe box. I'm trying to take up as little room as possible because she likes to run around her pen like a mad woman sometimes. She doesn't spend much time in it at all, unlike Gurtrude, who sits in it for an hour before laying and telling us about it. Lizbeth is in her's for maybe 5 or 10 mins, I'm not sure because I haven't seen her in it yet, just the eggs.

cat litter boxes are becoming quite popular also but at allot more for them than the sterilight tubs I will stick with them and all mine are pretty good sized birds
