No snow in Tacoma...but on my way home yesterday, I saw them putting the deicer down, so I feel like we're going to get it in the next couple of days.

We’re getting our coldest snap this week. All week it’s not supposed to get warmer than 20-26 degrees, and down to something like 11-16 at night... and that’s in town. I’m 2200 feet higher in elevation so we’re usually 5-7 degrees colder up here. And we’re going to be getting some snow on Wednesday. I’d guess 4 or 5 inches.

I’m ready for Spring 😂

This cold "snap" isn't working out well for me on the Eastern side either. But, it gives me time to really think out my brooder and coop rebuild before I really "get into it"!

Doing a tote(s) brooder by building 3 totes with framed (2"x1") access holes to go between. That way, I can secure hole holes and use as individual "hospital" beds for hens if needed later on...something I learned I needed with my last batch of hens when one got a bloody foot at bedtime years ago. I had to pull her out of the coop for an overnight visit in the house and she had to sleep in a cat carrier because I didn't have anywhere for her to go! So...planning ahead this time with 15 chicks coming! Still toying with putting the access doors both at one end (of the long sides) or if I should stagger them. The plan is a heat plate (EcoGlow 20) at one end, heat lamp (that I already have) at the other because I'm worried that my garage is just too cold to rely on just the heat plate) at the other to provide enough heat. The heat lamp makes me super nervous though...huge fire hazard, which is why I want the heat plate this time around! Chick feeder and nipple waterer in each bin...since I read that they need access to 4 linear inches of feed space, that's 60" of feeder needed!

It is way too early for this much math...I should have gotten the coop and everything ready BEFORE ordering chicks! :th At least I went with the April 26 hatch date....so I have a little time, lol.
