We have 6 degrees tonight.
I'm hoping to be ready for in-ground seeding in the next month. Waiting on the ground to thaw so we can till in compost and bark walkways. Only tilling since it's the first year here and the ground got super compacted when they built the house. Can't wait to obsess over seedling growthCan hardly wait for the upcoming cold front to pass on through so I can start seeding my garden beds. I like getting peas, radish and arugula in during February, but only if it looks like temperatures will stay above freezing.
That's awesome! I broke down and started lettuce, thyme, calendula, and onions yesterday under grow lights. Trying to hold off until April to start basil so it can go directly outside. I gave the worst luck with basil for whatever reason. They sprout, get true leaves... and then forever love at an inch tall. Trying a different seed supplier this year.I already have things like basil, peppers and tomatoes growing under the grow lights. I'm always a bit too eager.![]()
I feel you. We were are 5 degrees this morning at 8am. The coop was a whopping 7 degrees. Poor ladies are just hating this sudden cold snap. 50 degrees and sunny for a week and then suddenly single digits. Brrrr! We have 6 degrees tonight.
Yeah might want to try different types. I try to get them to a decent size before they go out, which is why I start the seeds so early. Right now I have maybe 7 sprouts in two 4" pots, so as they get bigger I'll separate them out to individual pots, and they hopefully will be ready to go out in May after that.Trying to hold off until April to start basil so it can go directly outside. Do you wind up separating them into singles and the become large or do you group them together? I wonder now if I planted them too densely before.Yeah might want to try different types. I separate out the starts once they get large enough to safely do so, so they'll each continue maturing in their own 4" pot. When I transplant them outside they all go into the same large pot, so I usually end up with 4-5 basil plants for the season.Do you wind up separating them into singles and the become large or do you group them together? Thanks, I definitely think I've been letting them be crowded.I separate out the starts once they get large enough to safely do so, so they'll each continue maturing in their own 4" pot.
