Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Guess I'll be ordering "chicken run only" boots for use for the time being, though as my property has a ton of water there's no helping the fact that ducks are constantly in the area as they come here every winter through spring.

Unfortunately given how the run is set up, covering isn't really feasible, so my goal is to minimize any tracking in of stuff from the outside.
With wild ducks visiting, are you concerned about the avian flu? Also, read an article today that this has been the coldest May in 50 years. I believe it. Only 48 and wet..I did put tomatoes out yesterday under cloches. Hope they don't get too cold. How's your garden? Everything seeded out is ever so slow growing. Lettuce, etc.

Any word on when that might be? How long do the wild bird fly though?

I haven't seen. Hard to fully predict them is the problem I think.

I have never been more thankful for the water lilies out there. They cover the big pond and stop the waterfowl from landing there.

This was a reply to someone building a duck pond and pen. Wild waterfowl had been in the construction area

Sunday night was 35° Monday night was 34° Tuesday night was 33°. Last night stayed warmer.

It's too wet still for me to do anything in the garden. I'm over in Graham.

Well yes, hence getting chicken only boots and locking the flock up in the run. Haven't seen or heard from "our" ducks in a few days so hoping they moved on (normally a female will set up here and raise a batch or two of ducklings, that hasn't yet happened this year).

It's been cold enough the last couple of days that I had to move the basil back into the greenhouse to overnight. Tomatoes were already planted last week so they'll just have to hang on. And yes all my seeded plants are growing super slow... arugula can be harvested, but that's about it. Radish is still tiny, peas are stagnating, etc.
