Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Hello all,
I'm trying to rehome my pair of rooster and hen. They were from a flock of 4 chicks and unfortunately two of the chicks were eaten by rats. The surviving two cling to each other and are inseparable so I'm trying to give them away together.

Both are 3/4 cream leg bar and 1/4 Rhode Island red. They're really shy but are pretty sweet. We already have a rooster and can't keep another one. Normally, we would process the roo but I fear the hen may get depressed. They're about six months old. The roo is starting to crow and the hen should be laying eggs soon.

If anyone is within an hour drive of Seattle I could maybe meet you somewhere to drop them off or you can come pick them up. TIA.

I hope they find a home quickly! :hugs

This is my first year raising chickens. They are now laying eggs. I couldn't stand the fact that everytime I tried to touch them they would sorta duck down and just be terrified of me. I moved my male rabbit into a smaller house so I am going to try using the big house for raising my new girls I plan on getting. I don't want to have a rooster so that's not on my agenda. I know that with the HVAC system and a good broody pad I can keep them warm. Fingers crossed I make it work.

That's most likely squatting because they're sexually mature and receptive to you. If they were terrified they'd just run.

My husband was just up there in Sumner had I actually read the entire page I would have tried to make it up there with him. 😞

Yep, did a bit of that yesterday--the place was JAMED,

Flock report:
brood #1 is 26 weeks ; #2 is 25 weeks and #3 is 22
Young rooster is 22 weeks and has in the last 2 weeks worked out his crow- 1yr old rooster, as nice as he was to me, was to hard on the hens so last month I decided he was to be culled.
None of the 6 pullets have laid an egg yet.
Of the 10, 1yr 5mo hens, I am getting 0 to 3 eggs a day. I do not leave a light on from 5am to 7am or at 4pm to 6pm. I want the flock to just live with the natural light.
They all are 90% done regrowing their feathers. Its been rough on them. I have been giving them once a week Scratch & Peck's scratch with corn, they love it.

We put clear plastic panels on the outside of the overhang eliminating the tarps. I'll get a pic when the sun comes up.
I laid the once a year new sand in the coop- it took 18 bags. On the 8th I sprayed the coop walls down with vinegar because I could see spots cropping up, well it didnt do its job. Last Thur. I had to go out with the bleach. All black bloom is gone.
I read an article on iron in well water and how it causes a bacteria in water pipes, sinks etc...
And it mentioned if you put a small bit of 100% copper in the water jug of farm animals it will keep that bacteria down. So I dropped a 1/2 inch bit of copper weir in and, it works.
The flock is enjoying our mild winter. I am glad everything is not frozen, BUT, I have seen, of all things, a few mosquitos.

:cafHave a great day,

Weather dog for our area says light snow.
