Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I just went out and modified the bottom 5 nest boxes for my broody. I took all the dividers out and put the 5 plexiglass sheets in front of the openings(still allowing lots of ventilation). Now she has 6' to walk to her own food and water. So when I give her eggs in a day or so I don't have to worry about her going to another nest. She is gonna get 8-12 eggs to try and hatch.

THANKS to CR, I am now sporting a super comfortable, dusty purple Carhartt coat.

And, I've already gotten it dirty.

Thanks CR for being brave enough to ask the store manager to be fair to all customers!

That's a great idea! Good thinking.

When I got home today, my next door neighbor came over to talk to me and told me that he has now seen 3 pairs of bald eagles with white heads, and one pair of juvenile eagles in the trees around our house. I know I've seen 1 pair of white-headed bald eagles swooping down toward my backyard, and a different neighbor has seen the juveniles. I'm glad he came to tell me, because I thought the eagles were finally gone.

He also said he's had a Marsh Hawk land in his yard, and another type of hawk (can't remember what he said it was). Now I'm back on alert. Aaaaaagh! The biggins are out in the back yard right now - but I'm watching them through the sliding glass door. They're NOT going to be happy if they end up stuck in the run all day again.

He also said he's seen a huge flock of Gold Finches, a flock of green birds (again, can't remember the name) and a different type of woodpeckers than we usually get (we usually get a lot of Flickers). He's not sure what has brought in all the wildlife, but he thinks the Eagles will be hanging around as long as all these different species of birds are here.

Well holy crap. They need to rename the Tukwila Family Fun Center to "Crazy-Kids Parent-Torture Center". It.was.awful. Maybe it's me. I hate crowded, loud places. Can NOT stand them. Plus spending $50 to be tortured for several hours added more fuel to the "we'll-never-go-back" fire. I need a glass of wine!!!

We've been there once for a friend's birthday party. We have never gone back. It was too much for my boys.

2 eggs today. Boo. I thought I'd get to come home to a great nest box filled with pretty colorful eggs to cheer me up. 2 :(

I'm back to one a day. Caunnie and Drama stopped laying the day we put Blackie and Latte in the coop with them without a barrier. I don't know how long it will be before they just decide to get along and play nice, and lay eggs despite their differences.

Rhodie doesn't seem to get thrown off by anything. Thank goodness.

my daughter came home and her words where "Mom is that my old toy box" of course it was, so now shes not very happy with me ( I just figured it wasnt being used so i clamed it, she just turned 15 so i guess i should have asked) i did tell her i would give it back and her responce "MOM like i'm going to want it back after its had chicks in it" couldnt be anyworse then it sitting out side with water, from all the rain...lol

Too funny. Hopefully she'll get over it. Give her time - she'll fall in love with the chicks.

Busy BYCers tonight? Where is everyone? My kids are finally asleep and I'm sitting here still feeling the effects of anxiety from that dreadful, terrible, rotten, no good place called a "Family Fun Center." My heart is tight and I feel like crying. From an afternoon of fun. Wowza. Someone come talk to me and make me feel better.

You know what... I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt that way after being at that place. I felt guilty because I should have been happy to have had the opportunity to bring my kids there, but, if I remember correctly, I was so stressed out I had tears running down my cheeks as I drove the kids home that night.
