Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Coughing, coughing, coughing, coughing!!!!!!!!!!! So over this! It feels like there has been little reprive for 2yrs! I've never even been a smoker!

Sometimes I come close to envying those who do not have daughters! Mine is 12 now and, oh the issues!!! She is really a good kid, though.

DH decided (grumpily) to help me make a coop out of a plastic playset. We have lots of tin siding that was left here and we decided to wall off the playset with that. The stuff sucks to cut without the right tools! He got ticked off yesterday and said to just go buy one because this is "gonna look like crap". Grrr, it will be fine and I just want something to keep the Silkies separated to keep from getting pooped on! We really don't have the moolah to buy anything decent and I'd rather make use of some of the junk around here!!!

In case y'all did n't get the "drink ALL the pepsi" reference...here's a hilarious blog post about doing ALL the things...and why *I'll* never be a grownup.

When there's talk in my house about cleaning, I bring this up whenever it's relevant.

So yesterday I went out to McLendons and they had just got fruit trees and berries bushes in. Two semi-dwarf multi-grafted (I think 5 varieties) plums, two white currants, and a high bush blueberry came home with me. I need to get 3 more blueberries this year at least and I'll be picking up a couple semi-dwarf apple trees.

It looks like all the golden raspberries I got from Mom two years ago have died. I'll have to get some more and put them in a different spot. The marionberries and blackberries look fine, and the thornless blackberries DH accidentally mowed last year are looking good. They are big enough that you can see them now.

I'd only planted 8 strawberries last year. Two are alive. I'll be moving those and adding a bunch more.

Even if I can't get much to grow in the garden other than peas, I've done pretty good on the perennial fruits.

Geez!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yesterday, I had to take my Mom to the vet to help her let her beloved 14y/o Shih-Tzu, Skoshi, go and also heard my aunt had to do the same for her kitty. One of my former co-workers is going to be treating her doggy for lymphoma and just tonight I heard another co-worker lost her Chesapeake to cancer. Feeling majorly bummed now

I was a true Pepsi addict but over the years I've weaned myself to diet pepsi, then caffeine- free diet pepsi and sometimes I will even share it. You get older and realize 'everything ' is trying to kill you and it gets easier to quit. I'm trying to teach myself to drink plain, tap water. Of course I don't want to know what's floating in the Chicago water besides pesticide, flushed medication residue, chlorine, fluoride, dumped bodies etc. The urologist says any cola should be consumed in moderation & the jury is still out on the safety of artificial sweeteners.

So...we still can't figure out what to buy to weatherproof the darned nest boxes! We filled in the gaps on the sides, and put weather strip foam where the lid comes down, but where the lid attaches to the coop we have NOTHING to keep out rain. I looked for a bike tube and couldn't find one. Nothing flexible is long enough. Can anyone think of something I can nail to the coop over the first few inches of the nest box so rain doesn't run into the nests?
Jessica,
I have a lot of scraps from my pond building days. I'm certain I have enough to cover the edge, if you want. It's heavy duty black rubber pond liner. It has a 20 year outdoor warranty (for all that's worth, lol) It's the pond liner that McLendons sells.
