Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Our farm is out on the edge of civilization about 30 minutes from the Muckleshoot Reservation. Last night it seemed like the majority of my neighbors spent a whole pay check or more on very expensive noise makers. It is their choice I guess, but I'd rather see them spend the money on a hobby for their kids. The horses and chickens were all fine this morning. I don't have a problem with the fireworks, but do agree that there needs to be some limit on them - like from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. or something like that. Not that it would ever be enforced...the sheriff won't even come out this way without a back-up patrol on site already. Fortunately it is only one day a year. :)

The state actually does have a time limit on lighting them off. It just isn't enforced. Last night it was midnight. Back to 11 tonight which is the last day.

Everyone was pretty much done around here by 11:15 last night. We're out in the country, though. We had four we lit off. Three fountains and one small air display. We picked out the quietest ones we could. Only the juvenile boys freaked because they could see it. They hopped off the roof and slept with the silkie boys last night. Well two of the boys just didn't care.

When I checked everyone else they were all asleep. We hear people shooting around here quite a bit so I guess they just decided whatever.

I raised small animals for years and I always wanted a squirrel or chipmunk! They are so dang cute but at the same time they are "wild" animals and it would make me sad to see one in a cage. Chippy is so dang cute in the bucket bed. Will you be releasing him back outside once he is able to fend for himself? I am sure he would stick around and be an outdoor "pet" that would visit often. I have been able to pet wild squirrels, marmots, and raccoons that were "tame" and not afraid of people.
Chippy has been renamed Adrian,, cuz Einstein keeps calling him Munk..get it?
Adrian Munk ??????????????

YES Adrian is gaining strength & eating like a piggy...and getting FAST !
Einstein put him in a small rabbit cage fitted with hardware cloth...so Adrean cannot escape and get lost in our house.

SOON he will be released.
We put him on the BBQ table every nice day, and he gets fresh air & orintation, and soon I'll leave the door open.
He'll be able to leave.
And he can come back for shelter & food if he needs to.

I am amazed at how many people in our area have money to burn. What a waste! If people put as much money into a charity as they do into a night of terror for anyone with PTSD (which includes most of the people who fought for their celebrated freedom), they could actually do some good instead of making Americans look like idiots with their noise and smoke. Sadly, this has already been going on non-stop for more than 4 hours and it will continue until the early hours of the morning. People were shooting off fireworks through the night last night, regardless of the fact that most people want to sleep between midnight and 3am rather than being woken up from sleep by explosions. My husband could not sleep last night so tonight he had to wear ear plugs to bed. I am usually up until 3am but it still irritates me how inconsiderate people are with their noisemakers. I suppose that is the American way and it is no wonder we are considered the rudest society in the world.
I whole heartedly agree !
I watered half our property to try & avoid fires...and then some idiots were up til 2 AM blowing off firearms (the idiot a few acres away has a 50 Cal. he loves to blow off BOOM every 5 minutes...wow, so exciting !

Of course half the livestock, wildlife & pets everywhere are scared to death as well............and great air quality the next day, not to mention the trash everywhere !
I hate the 4th of July !

I think there is many, many ways we can thank our veterans and celebrate our freedome without the fires, smoke, PTSD issues and terrorizing animals.
How about donate to a veterans' organization instead of $$$ on fireworks ?

I was out yesterday not too long after noon when our neighbors decided to start shooting their fireworks off OVER OUR HOUSE. I kid you not.

They couldn't see me, since I was on the other side of the house from them. But sheee-it. What jerks.

They've got PLENTY of land where they could have aimed their fireworks, but since it was drizzling a bit they decided to shoot them off from the front of their garage door, which just happens to face our house.

I was working on some walkways in the chicken yard and a bottle rocket blasted right over my head, then landed a couple feet away from me. I took the stick right inside and handed it to Drew, who had a little polite chat with the Orcs.

Where we live the big home-made booms are expected to continue for a few days. Because that's how they've always done it.

Sigh.

Things will be blowing up here for at least a couple of more days

Hopefully not too much longer because we only have one more dose of doggie xanax.

Anyone interested in these two cockerels? I am heading South on I-5 this afternoon and could easily drop them off or meet somewhere..

If I could have roosters in city limits I would keep the splash in a heartbeat.

They're 13 weeks old and hatched from CatKai eggs (byc member) 4/5/14. Free - I just need to re-home them before they start crowing

I was hoping to take the Pekin as a companion for my Pekin hen but they already have lots of people who want the whole flock and they don't want to separate any of them.
