Nope, she has a special need. She just has a fast growing beak and doesn't wear it down fast enough. If I can get it to proper shape, she may be able to keep up with it like everyone else. She puts up with the nail file only for so long each time


You'll have to trim toenails once or twice a year. The rear one especially can get long. Dog nail clippers and it goes fast. I've had to trim large fowl broodies nails as well if they sit too long.

Hi I’m new to this online community.
We just lost our rooster, a 15 pound Rainbow we. We’re hoping to breed with our young Delaware hens and incubate out some eggs in February. Then I started seeing what Kathyinmo was doing with Delaware’s .
I’m hoping to get or hatch a out a Delaware to start my own breeding stock.
No where on the level that Kathy is at but some decent birds for our own use as dual purpose birds.
Anyone here in Washington State have something like that available?

Did you find a rooster for your project yet? I have a friend with a Delaware flock in Silverdale that may have an extra rooster, if you want me to check.

One of my new hens is laying fertile eggs. Since the previous owner had no males, but did allow free ranging, it's a mystery who/what has been breeding her.
I think I'll slip a few of her eggs into the incubator to see what hatches...

interesting yes post some photo's if they hatch would be kinda neat.. now I am getting eggs again see if one of the silkies want to hatch them

I’m confused. Yesterday I got to brown eggs and one green from my new chickens. Today I got to green and one brown. What the heck? They can’t change what color eggs they lay can they?

They are still relatively new to laying. It's possible that the brown layer laid an extra egg.
