Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Many bad words to Mother Nature.

Since tomorrow is supposed to be the worst day, gonna throw in the towel and go to mother-in-law's for the hottest part of the day, as she has AC. Hubby can set up his office stuff and work from her kitchen for the day. We'll take the biggest dog with us as she's been panting the most.

I'll probably go part of the day and then head back home to see to the other animals (refreshing chicken water, wetting down the run, making sure the other dogs are doing ok).

We do have the air here that is good so glad Snow she lives in the screen room during the day and it is so hot took ice cubes out couple in the water rest in front of her
she decided they tasted prefect

My oldest hen who's an EE is going strong so far. She's been the first to run to me when I bring treats. Wouldn't know she's 11.5 years except she's very stubborn and set in her ways.

She was one of the first to check out the tarp though and hangs out under there. That water bowl stays fairly cool.

Ok everyone, finish up that coffee and lets get things ready.
I know you are all stressed and doing the best you can,
Our animals/pets depend on us
if it is 95 on the porch then it is 102+ out in the coop/run
It's when they are holding their wings away from their body in conjunction with some of the following symptoms that you may need to take action.

Panting. Chickens only pant if they are hot, so this can be the first indicator that they are becoming overheated!
Their comb and wattles will feel hot to the touch.
Seems to have lost her appetite.
Lethargic behavior. Weakness.
Closed eyes while standing.
May be staggering when walking.
The may lay down completely spread out with wings and feet extended.
Watery droppings caused by increased water intake

Decreased egg production (though admittedly this sometimes happen during heat waves without the chickens suffering from heat stress!

Lets be safe out there,
